I watched The Hunger Games on the Brazilian Netflix before it even came out on DVD here. Well worth jumping between the countries.

LF and Netflix are a bit of a joke, to be honest.

All the big films are tied up with Sky, unfortunately.

Depends what you call big films. I think Sky Movies is crap and shows the same crappy movies all the time. Netflix is not bad if you have a Unblock US. Lovefilm can be good as well if you have Discs by post. Also not everyone is after films. Netflix also have a good selection of TV shows.

But will it be in the Sky Store though at the same time?

Maybe, but not every one want big films almost as soon as they are released and not every one wants to pay sky their high prices for these films and some people like myself do find some good stuff on Netflix and Lovefilm.

I don't use Lovefilm streaming, but I do use their DVd rental service and If I want any of what you call big films, then I can get them that way.

Sure none of the companies are perfect, but since I can do unlimited streaming with Netflix for £6.99 a month, I think it is pretty good value.

So for people with Sky there is absolutely no point in getting Netflix or LoveFilm really.

Sky Store is a pay per view service. So you will pay £3.99 for one film with access to it for 24 hours. For £5 more you will get that film for a whole month plus access to thousands of other titles from ten countries netflix sites. So what do you think:-

£3.99 to rent one film for 24 hours
£9 for access to thousands of films for one month.

Erm bit of a no brainer really.

If you have unblock us you can find all these films which are currently on Sky Movies or about to go on there:-

The Descendants
Tintin
Mission impossible:Ghost Protocol
Alvin and the chipmunks 3
The Sitter

The Artist which has not yet turned up on Sky Movies

Plus New Years Eve which i mentioned in an earlier post which will only be on Sky Store for £3.99.

I've had netflix since it first came to the UK.

It is worth the £6 a month if you like watching the tv series on there as well as films especially if you don't have sky.

The subscription is worth it alone just to be able to watch breaking bad.

But if it's only movies you are after then you probably will be disappointed and would be better off paying more for sky's service Now TV which has a better selection of movies but in my opinion has so many technical issues it's not worth it.

EDIT: As others have said though if you have unblock US netflix will be better than Sky and hell of a lot cheaper.

Why? Sky Store is pay per view where you have to pay £3.99 for one film! Netflix is only £5.99 a month and if you added Unblock US would make it about £8 a month. A disc rental only package for £5.99 with Lovefilm could also give you to access to a wide variety of recent films.

I like the Netflix service, although searching is tricky at first they have a lot of good tv shows and in HD. Such as:

Rescue Me
Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Sons of Anarchy
Lost
Breaking Bad (now exclusive to Netflix)
Jericho
4400
The Office (US)
24
Prison Break
White Collar
the list goes on

as well as British shows (Peep Show, IT Crowd, etc) most of which I can't remember as I watched them on TV.

LoveFilm tends to have a better film selection admittedly mainly films that have been out a year or two. They have just secured all 7 seasons of The Shield so if you haven;t seen it check that out. It made FX as a original scripted drama channel in the US.

I use the US service but when in London I've checked out the UK service and you guys are being ripped off big time! It cannot compare.

It's not a case of being ripped off, Netflix and LoveFilm do the best they can with what they can get, after Sky have bought up everything half decent.

We also need to remember that Netflix has only been running in the since February.

For what they charge, you would expect them to be showing the same stuff universally regardless of region... its a bit frustrating they have many incomplete series on there

Stuff like Shameless (I know it went downhill after season 3 but still) only having 7 out of 10 seasons.. and Men behaving badly missing a bunch of stuff (which just seems lazy as it itself is considered a "classic" now)

Alot of the "bigname" movies on the uk one are either really old, or movies that performed badly on release

In all fairness.. I think services like netflix should be a baseline product when you buy the bigger cable packages (tv + broadband/phone) its just another big rip off... imo even if you factor in the issue with sky buying everything up, if the quality is not reflected in price they should reduce it further

I know the likes of Virgin have something simular on the go but that has a long way to go still

Lazy on who's part?
Netflix are at the mercy of the studios and can only show what's within their licensing agreement.
I'm sure they would like to show the same stuff on all regions, but again they are bound by licensing restrictions as other services in other regions like Sky over here hold the rights for certain things.
I'm pretty sure the likes of Sky will say to the studios they will pay £xxx amount as long as they have exclusivity for a certain amount of years.
For what they charge I think its pretty descent. If you want a premium service then I'm afraid you'll have to pay a premium price for the privelage. Take Sky's Now TV which is around 3 times dearer than Netflix after the first 3 months.

Sky have exclusivity deals with NBC/Universal, Warner, HBO, Showtime, AMC as well as the pick of the crop from their parent company Fox.

What's left for LoveFlim, Netflix or YouView? Not much...

Well done you, nice list. There's some I've watched on NF in recent weeks/months and theres a few films there I've not even noticed yet.
I watched The Other Guys(NFCanada) last night.
I've been watching loads of TV shows including 24, Terra Nova,Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles, Voltron Force(new most recent series) and the latest I intend to start watching is Touch(Kiefer Sutherland)

Sorry to hijack this thread but does anyone else here own The Samsung Blu ray player BD- C5300? The UK version of Netflix isn't available on this model but I was hoping with Unblock US that i could use the US version on it. I have all the US Apps and they are all working apart from Netflix! It goes to a blank screen when I select it and it crashes the player! Anyone else have these problems?
