I'm just going by what I see and read, as no doubt we all are.
I don't think his phony personality really needs further clarification, there's plenty of explanations on this forum already, but I'll summarise it anyway. The whole shaking routine is exaggerated for the cameras, hence the criticism he receives from his fellow contestants. Clearly we don't know what he's truly like behind the scenes, but I've heard enough to be pretty sure that he's a total @rse and a big headed diva. You only have to notice the body language of his fellow contestants to see there's no love lost there. No one seems to have a good word to say about him apart from Gary who, as his mentor, is always going to have his back. Rylan's act gets criticised as much as Chris' does, but most of the time people caveat it with "he's such a nice bloke" etc. No one says that about Chris. He goes on about his nan like he's the only contestant to ever have a supportive and sensitive family member. Ramming the "MeNan" stuff down our throats is boring, repetitive and irrelevant to the situation he's in. Rylan gets booed (at least he used to) but you didn't see him whinging about the impact on his family. I could put up with his lack of likeability if he had the talent to back it up, but he doesn't. His karaoke versions of dated power ballads ought to be confined to weddings and bingo halls, but sadly I think we're stuck with him and will have to put up with him in the final.
