LIverpool was treated like a pig by London media, Thatcher and the Police over Hillsborough

This year they city got justice

Is Christopher benefiting from a city who have been battered but never defeated and this year they will win the X-Factor with their boy?

I would not begrudge them that

The thought fleetingly occurred to me early in the series but I have given it no further thought.

I'd say it's more like a city simply backing its own rather than anything to do with Hilsborough

It's obvious that most of Londoners have switched to Strictly this year.

Most X Factor voters would never tell their friends or even family if they voted. Mobile phones in their single bedroom etc.

Then to come top of the votes as he has allegedly been doing then he must have more closet fans than just nans & Scousers! (I voted for Jahmene this week esp in view of twitter rumours that he was bottom 2 with Rylan earlier in the day)

Back to the original post - am not convinced of a Hillsborough effect! Maybe a protest vote but certainly the impression I have from work & home, Liverpool is not voting in droves for Chris, although I am sure he must have some local support like all acts!

Of course he bloody does. Some people are just so bitter and deluded they don't want to believe it.

People forget that Christopher has been a professional singer for years, and although some trash the idea of cruise singers, those companies customers pay thousands for their cruises and the entertainment has to be a high standard, he has obviously been popular to keep being re-booked, so he has come to the show with probably a lot of people having seen him and enjoyed what he did.

Haven't you seen the support in the echo and the daily post. And on Rossi radio show . Loads of people phoning in supporting him.

Of course there is a modicum of regional support whenever an X Factor (or any reality TV contestant really) reaches the finals. I remember 'Gareth (Gates) to Win' posters up in the shops when I lived in Bradford, though no-one I knew actually voted for him.

Maybe, just maybe people vote for him because they think he has a good voice? He's middle of the road, which is almost a genre in itself these days - look at Michael Buble.

Maybe people don't want twiddly notes or crazy outfits, dubstep or 'interpretations' - maybe some people want a nice song sung well. What's wrong with that? Yeah he can be a bit cheesy, but he's safe and people get fed up with one trick ponies and novelty acts.

That'll be his family and friends no doubt.

Most of the posters up around the city centre of him have been vandalised by people writing not so supportive messages on them.

Of course he's going to have some support from Liverpool, some people can't help but 'support their own' but if you compare it to previous years such as Rebecca and Marcus (who I personally couldn't stand) then his support just doesn't compare in the slightest.

I'd suggest the OP is trivialising a tragedy in trying to link it with Christopher's popularity on XF.

Chris has lots of support in Liverpool and beyond and would love to see him in the final.

Whatever people say on here I can't see how Chris's success is a result of anything other than regional bloc voting. He is sailing through week after week far too easily for it to be anything else. Couple that with the granny vote he's no doubt got too and he's going to win. It's like Leon Jackson except Leon was actually rather cute and had a nice voice but was let down by lack of experience and crap styling...Chris is bloody scary and I can't believe people would support him for ANY reason.

All that said I don't see any kind of "Hillsborough" link when it comes to Chris and to suggest so is in bad taste.

Yes and Leon comes across as humble and a genuinely nice lad.

Christopher on the other hand....
