"People think their favourites are safe so they don't vote"

Erm, how do you know Tulisa? Are you psychic? Is there some sort of magic powers you possess to look into the minds of X Factor viewers and find out whether they liked Ella but just didn't want to vote for her?

I hate when the judges do this. And when they say "the public have got it wrong." Why not just do away with the voting altogether then? It's a slap in the face to everyone that did vote being told they didn't vote for the right people. They already have enough sway to keep their chosen acts in by having a judges vote, but they still moan when it goes to deadlock and the public vote decides.

Why can't they just accept the public have a different taste from them and that their favourites aren't necessarily ours.

Especially at this point in the competition where there are fewer artists, so the chance of them being bottom is higher anyway.

The fact is that nobody with any taste votes on this show any more. Or they vote perversely just to piss people off.

It was like being yelled at by the teacher when she was telling us to vote

Exactly. Nobody on the panel has mentioned once that Ella might not have been as popular as they thought. If she was such a favourite she wouldn't have been last in a six-way vote.

Are people made of money to throw away on voting for people all the time? Even she herself admitted that she only voted after a certain number of weeks had lapsed. I think Ella is a lovely girl and a great singer but I wouldn't vote for her when we've been told all along how popular her and James are. It's their fault for bigging up certain artists and saying "I want you to win" etc. It's bound to have a negative backlash. Can't they realise this?

I don't vote as ultimately the judges will decide. Well apart from this year when they sat on the fence a lot or just out and out refused to cast a vote. Also, I don't care so much as to lift up the phone.

I thought it was "People are just watching X-Factor because they're bored so they don't vote anymore, but still love a nice rant when the best person goes"

Tulisa, we watch The X Factor for entertainment, not for you to tell us to spend money to keep someone in. Ridiculous.

yeah i've never liked this excuse. i might happen a bit but not enough to seriously affect the results.

There are bound to be some people who held off from voting for Ella or James through thinking they were safe, so there's some justification for Tulisa's remarks. I probably wouldn't vote for anyone I thought was topping the poll - there's no point, other than enriching Syco who are doing quite as well as I could wish them to be doing already. As it is, my votes went to Rylan and I'm pleased that they contributed to achieving the desired result

This excuse doesnt wash with me in the later stages of the shows. In the beginning it could hold some weight, as people would think 'oh out of 12 shes sure to be safe' or something..and they would probably be right, but with only 6 left voters know that any one of them could easily be bottom 2 with a bad week. If I voted I would make sure I did at this stage no matter how good my fave was. As its bound to be close for the b2 every week by now.

And for everyone who didnt vote as they thought she was safe, there will be someone else who didnt vote for, say, Rylan, as they thought he was sure for bottom 2 and it would be a wasted vote. IMO anyway.

Olly was last in a 6 way vote though back in series 6 when against Jedward who were 5th...

Surely this will apply proportionally for all the contestants, since all contestants are favourites to someone.

It's more likely to be swing voters or undecideds that assume safety and fail to vote.

Don't buy this excuse, just cause you shove something down someones throat doesn't mean they automatically like it. They may actually find it quite a turn off.

It's a question how many people do give thought to how safe their favourite acts are before voting. Anyone who does, though, would surely have thought along the lines that one at least out of Chris, Rylan and Union J would be in the bottom 2, and James or Ella or Jahmene would be saved over any of them even if by some freak of the voting they did wind up there...

I guess the judges see it that way as they spend their weeks speaking to people in the street or wherever and I'd guess almost everyone tells them "aww XXX shouldnt have been in the bottom 2 I love her/him" "did you vote" "oh no, of course not that's for chavs" or different variations of that conversation. The gist being that by the nature of human nature (people saying what they think a celeb wants to hear) or self selection (people who approach a judge with an opinion are likely to have a positive opinion of that judges acts) the judges can get a false sense of their act's popularity.

Tulisa was'nt shouting at people who are voting for Rylan and Chris or who are not voting for anyone as they don't care, she was shouting at those who wanted Ella in the contest but couldn't be bothered to vote. That group is probably not as big as she thinks but there is no doubt there are a significant number of people who do fit into that category.

Tulisa was out of order with what she said IMO. Its the public who vote, and Ella came bottom. Maybe they thought she was safe.. or, heres an idea, maybe they didnt like her performance (I didnt). Thats just TOUGH!
Tulisa was rude and unprofessional

I can never understand when one of the favorites go then the judges say its all wrong the wrong one is leaving and the wrong ones are being kept in.

Now if your favorite is say Rylan ( not mine) your going to vote for him no matter what any of the judges say. You not going to think well Rylan is safe this week so Im going to waste my money on voting for Chris ( my favorite) . Also the more the judges say Chris/Rylan are the worse singers arent people just going to vote to them then??

If Chris and Rylan are still in the competition then could that just possibly mean people who watch the show like them OK they arent going to be the next Elton John but there are people out there who would buy they music and go to see them.

Put it this way, Rylan would put on a fantastic concert if you went to see him live but all you'd get from James would be him sitting on a stool all the way through and Ella standing changing a happy upbeat song like "You're the One that I Want" into a ballard!

I think Tulisa needs to watch herself back over the last few weeks.

As Rylan performed she and Nicole would have big grins on their faces and be bobbing about to the beat, after Rylan had performed she and Nicole would be whooping it up, jumping up and roaring with laughter. There would be much banter and hilarity.

Compare that with the judges' reaction to Ella - undoubtedly a better singer but they had turned her into a badly dressed, leaden lump singing dirgeful songs that a lot of people did not recognise and often in too low or too high a key. In every song Ella broke out in her 'high' voice that was much less sure than her main voice, and sometimes sounded odd and out of tune.

On the judges panel their own faces showed that they appreciated her talent but were not entertained by her as much as by the more upbeat, colourful numbers from some of the others. Ella is the sort of artiste who should have stopped trafffic and brought an occasional tear to the eye. In our house we would usually be talking over her saying she's very good but why does she look 40, why is she wearing that hideous outfit and what the hell is this she's singing? Tulisa turned her into a nice girl next door who was 'too cool for school'. Hard to like arrangements of songs is a very bad route to go on a public vote.

Two of our biggest stars of the moment - Ed Sheeran and Adele would have concerts very similar to these two and they are extremely popular.

Don't get me wrong I love a Kylie concert which would be very similar to Rylan's, but to suggest there isnt a potential market for James and Ella is unfair - its just a different market.

I'm not sure you can be sure of that being the case. It quite possible that over the last few years many regular viewers who prefer to see the more talented vocalists make the finals have just stopped voting as they have become disillusioned while those who like the joke/entertaining type acts are still voting.

I know that most people I speak to (not just online fans of the show) don't vote any more because they feel it is not a show which rewards and acknowledges talent in the way it was originally set up to do. They may watch but they won't waste their money picking up the phone. This is generalising of course but it's a pretty commonplace view and the voting results each year tend to support the suggestion that it's simply an entertainment piece of television and the final placings are irrelevant to a) the level of talent and b)the interest/investment of the powers that be post show.
