all this rubbish about making the song your own - is it really all its cracked up to be? I dont know who votes for these shows or how/why people vote but I know my gran (who loves xfactor) hates it when acts turn a classic on its head

Sometimes it works, most times it doesn't.

For example, in my opinion G4 murdered absolutely everything they sung.

I think it is a problem when it's getting to the point where songs are completely rearranged (i.e. Ella's positively funereal You're The One That I Want) or cobbled together in so called 'mash-ups' in order for the judges to be able to say "You made it your own!"

The thing is, the contestants aren't making songs their own - they're just singing songs that have been rearranged or cobbled together. Basically they just make the song whatever their mentor/the producers want it to be.

Perhaps Chris is getting the votes because he sings songs as originally written. That being the case, I fully expect to see him saddled with a funereal arrangement of Eye Of The Tiger or a You'll Never Walk Alone/Firestarter mash-up!

I know. They'll be hell-bent on getting rid of him now just to punish us for not voting for the grossly over-hyped Ella and James.
