Anyone agree? I know pop music is in the bittersweet, oversung doldrums at the moment anyway (I call it the Chasing Cars effect..damn you to hell Snow Patrol) but we as a household actually flicked channels for the first time ever during the X Factor on Saturday because it was bringing us down Cheer up X Factor!!

Is it just us?

We also thing making a song your own is drifting back into Darius/Baby One More Time territory. Bah.

I totally agree the reason I liked rylan on sat is because he was the only one that actually moved around the rest all stood there like a block of ice with their slowed Down songs, it's like there trying to turn themselves into the voice , I didn't like the voice and I'm rapidly going off xf

It really does get boring when acts sings ballads every week, which is why I find Rylan a lot of fun and very entertaining...and very OTT lol

Imagine if Ella gad reprised the Newton John version of 'You're The One That I Want', she would have wowed the audience and possible have stayed.

But the the producers decided she must leave and appointed her to murder a very popular song.

When the likes of Ella and James do music (in the real world) they will be perfoming their own songs in their own way. The fact they're forced to do covers every week means that they would never try to emulate the originals for fear of being accused of being karaoke. The are putting their own stamp on them. What you should never do is slow down a cheerful song to the point of it sounding durgy.

A slowed down pop song sung seriously usually only works once for an act. It's hard to maintain any momentum doing it week after week. Ella should've alternated between uptempo and slow.

Perhaps that's why I find myself rooting for Rylan without actually thinking he's any good...he's the much...MUCH needed glittery light relief in a sea of curdling durge and woefulness.

She could have easily sped up after the first few lines, and then its not a karaoke song anymore but one with her own stamp on it and one that would have came across much better.
