Why do you think there has been such a disconnect?
This year like no other there has been a really BIG disconnection between the judges and the public and last night I think it really dawned on them how wrong there preconceptions have been.

The disconnection this year is in not realising that saving supposedly "entertaining" acts is just 1 year too many.
Week 1 , a producer is visible then Louis is suddenly unable to decide between Rylan & Carolynne. Seen it all before , too many times. The public are also aware that an act that finishes 4th or wherever will have an album out at some point. Why waste money trying to save an act only to have Louis say he wants to save an act because they are entertaining? Buy the album & invariably see that act out perform the eventual winner. |

The X Factor has ironically lost 'the X Factor' itself. Back when Leona Lewis was on the show, she was the best singer, her voice was superb, and she was almost guaranteed to win because people actually cared about the show and voted for the people who 'deserved' to win. Yes, back then people actually voted.
I think the X Factor has just run every year now for too many years. There are only so many years that people are going to care who wins and who doesn't. People will watch the show because it's Saturday night viewing, it's light entertainment, and it's nice to see performances, but how many of those people actually -care- who wins? Very few. And even the people who care who wins won't necessarily vote. The X Factor voting will never make sense from this year onwards, it will just be people voting for the stupid 'entertainment' acts because it's funny for them to win (i.e. Rylan, Christopher) and maybe teenage girls will vote for the boybands. Someone like Ella though, everyone thinks she's a good singer, but who are her fans? And who cares if she wins or not? In summary, the X Factor model used to work because the viewing public cared about the outcome. Now they really couldn't care less. |
