Do you mean on screen crying in a scene or scene from a film that makes the viewer cry?

Sally Field in Steel Magnolias when she breaks down and declares she wants to hit something hard. The icing on the cake is when Olympia Dukasis presents Shirley McClaine for her to hit.

Was just about to say that exact same thing. My favourite scene from any movie. Still makes me cry too.

I am Sam.
Seeing Sean Penn as a mentally challenged guy crying and his daughter played by a very young Dakota Fanning in tears and crying being seperated as she is taken into care is really hard to watch. |

...and always best when followed instantly by that blank, thousand yard stare.
Then straight into sheer confusion and then one beat into blissful satisfaction. All while being watched by Ollie, arms folded with a look of frustration on his face before turning to camera and shaking his head. Right, screw work, I'm going to spend the rest of today watching Laurel and Hardy films. |

Emma Thompson in Love Actually. The bit where she opens her christmas present and realises her husband bought the gorgeous necklace for his secretary, she goes upstairs and has a cry by herself in her bedroom.

So many good choices already. Here's another (not saying it's great but pretty good me thinks!) - A young Rick Schroder in The Champ, when he goes into the room and see's his dad (Jon Voight) dead on the physio table - I'm welling up thinking about it

It's a hard one but it has to be a toss up between Keanu Reeves in The Devil's Advocate or Brat Pitt in Se7en
