According to Freesat Non-Freesat mode is the "domain of Humax" and there are no G2 restrictions on recording Non-Freesat channels.

So Humax are free to do what ever they want with Non-Freesat mode, they just choose to do very little. Surely they could let us record one channel and possible set the recording length !

Obviously having the ability to set manual timers in non-freesat might be asking a little too much of them.

Afaik Humax haven't said they won't allow recordings. It's most likely not a prioriity at the moment. The other 2 catch up services promised by year end are more likely to be top of the list

I don't recal Humax saying anything ! But it would be nice if they could pop in and tell us if they have any upgrades planned for their Non-Freesat mode.

So as G2 is Freesat it stands to reason that Non-Freesat in the Humax "domain" would not have any G2 restrictions.

I rather think Aubrey's reply was in respect of technical responsibity and not meaning free to do what they like.

While I have not particular knowledge on any specific limitation I have the impression that non-freesat functionality is interesting to only a minority of users. Compare it to the number who would like to see DLNA server functionality.

Well Aubrey's latest reply below makes it very clear to me, you are of course free to interpret it in any way you like.

Indeed, as I indicated before freesat may never the less have discouraged this. However what is the incentive to support such a minority feature set? The usrs that want to record are in the main non 28E users.

If this is such a minority feature why do you feel the need to blame Freesat ? Humax obviously can't be bothered to put much time & effort in to Non Freesat, you agree that they shouldn't bother, surely there is no need to say that Freesat may have secretly discouraged them.

Are you under the impression it would be difficult for a STB manufacturer like Humax to get a HDR to record and stop recording a channel ? If Humax did manage to overcome the many obstacles in their path and achieve this feat of engineering it wouldn't need much support in their domain i.e. Non Freesat Mode.

The Foxsat-hdr does allow recording of non freesat channels. During the early days back in 2008 I asked for a simple manual timer for non freesat mode. I was told in words that indicated that Freesat wouldn't look too kindly on this so it was never implemented. It took a 3rd party Custom Firmware add on to provide this capability. You can set non-freesat timers and watch non-freesat channels without leaving freesat mode. If timer recordings of non freesat is a priority I would get a Foxsat-hdr, while manual recording of non freesat channels may appear on the HDR-1000s it's seems very unlikely that timer recordings or a custom firmware add on ala Foxsat-hdr will ever happen.

Thanks for your input Graham, I've actually had a Foxsat HDR for 4 years too, it basically does everything I want it to without the custom firmware, I'm really not that demanding.
I can easily watch Freesat and non-Freesat via my TV's sat tuner and it will record.

One of the reasons I'm thinking of getting the 1000S is because a certain individual keeps on saying the PQ is noticeably better on the 1000S than the old Foxsat and I'm all for better picture quality.

I was just hoping for more functionality not less, I have no interest in catch up TV.

Getting back to the point of this thread.

It seems to me that it's Humax that don't like Non-Freesat, other manufacturers have managed to make FS boxes that are a lot more 'Non-Freesat' friendly, my TV is 'Non-Freesat' friendly. 3 button presses to watch Sky News unless it was the last viewed channel and then it only takes one press of the "Last view" button and press it again to get back to Freesat.

One button press between Freesat and Non Freesat !

There really isn't any need for any Humax devotees or owner of this box to get defensive, a little criticism can be good thing.
