Contestants ranked in order of Last.fm scrobbles
For those who don't know it, Last.fm is a website that tracks it's users listening habits (from iTunes etc, mp3 players etc) and collates them into a whole array of charts.
As the contestants performances are obtainable via iTunes I thought that it might be interesting to see which contestants are proving more popular in actual listens, rather than reality-show votes, as this *might* provide some indication who might actually be able to sell music beyond the show and therefore actually have a career beyond a sole cash-in album. The results surprised me a little given who has just lost their place in the competition. 1/ Ella Henderson - 22,686 plays & 564 listeners 2/ Union J - 13.266 plays & 225 listeners 3/ James Arthur - 10,070 plays & 528 listeners 4/ Jahmene Douglas - 567 plays & 74 listeners 5/ Christopher Maloney - 337 plays & 52 listeners 6/ Rylan - No information available (ie no listens!) Obviously it's a limited demographic (although there are 30 million users), as I suspect the majority of those voting for Christopher Maloney are unlikely to be a member of Last.fm or maybe even use the internet much (and yes, I'm suggesting they're mostly going to be nans thinking 'ooh, isn't he lovely), but still an interesting alternative take on how the contestants are doing, I think. NB: I couldn't quite decide whether I should rank Union J and James Arthur by listens or by listeners. I went for individual plays in the end, but you could just as easily argue that James Arthur should be 2nd as he has more listeners. |

I'm surprised James isn't topping the list comfortably given his likely demographic of fans. This does show that Ella has more commercial potential than people on here seem to give her credit for. But none of the listener numbers are very high, are they? I wonder how this compares to previous series.

Considering Ella was bottom last week and Chris has been topping each week, I doubt this translates into votes.

1/ Ella Henderson - 22,686 plays & 564 listeners Interesting plays to listeners ratio. I presume it's because a lot of their fans are people who will listen to their performances on repeat multiple times a day.
2/ Union J - 13.266 plays & 225 listeners 3/ James Arthur - 10,070 plays & 528 listeners |

Rylan is on there under 'Rylan Clark'. He has 38 listeners and 252 scrobbles.

Those are all ridiculously low numbers that prove pretty much nothing. For a comparison, the #150 ranked artist in the UK (Stereophonics) had nearly 2,000 listeners last week alone.

What it *may suggest*, is who *might* have momentum in terms of people actually wanting to listen to them as an act outside of the X-Factor circus. That's all. |

Figures are irrelevant if none of them actually vote.
All the people who tweet and are outraged, if they didn't vote there's no comeback. |
