There's been some pretty dire and inappropriate music in recent years but surely nothing as remotely dreadful as that featured in Brendon and Victoria's Paso Doble.

This dance needs fiery and dramatic Spanish-style music to set the mood of the dance. Instead we were treated to the dreadful wailing of some poor soul bleating 'I want to ride my bicycle' or words to that effect. It beggars belief. Does the producer know absolutely NOTHING about ballroom and latin dancing? With such huge sums of money involved we can't rely on that nice Mr Goodman to rock the boat.

it was a dire choice (not brendans may I add) for a paso

Most of the music has been dire. And the rest (5%) has been passable.

Apparently the music controller at SCD is a bloke called Ben.

Actually just listening to it, a Paso Doble could well have been possible to selected bits of it. Forget the performance and imagine a bull-fight or paso doble with

Just saw this on Brendan's twitter - might answer the question re who chooses music!

'Many of you asking... We do get to choose the music we use but occasionally a certain song or theme is asked of us.
Lots of comments re my Wembley Choreography. Wasn't easy to that piece of music. Especially incorporating a flying bike!Almost succeeded lol'

I would think Pros were told to go 'big' for Wembley!

Ah yes, that would be the famous Ben Dover.

I just knew from the thread title it would probably be about that Queen song. But is "Ghostbusters" any better? etc

It was inevitable that the producers wouldn't be able to restrain themselves from having Victoria dance to that song at some point in the series. We're just lucky she wasn't waltzing to it, I suppose.

I thought Brendan coped admirably with choreographing fairly respectable Paso content for such an unfortunate song that was foisted upon him.

You have hit the nail on the head here, no-one can tell the producers anything and no-one dare, since if they do they are out! Remember Arlene Phillips......... and others (mentioning no further names) who mysteriously vanish from the programme !

I wouldn't go that far.

But my favourite part is still Brendan almost strangling himself with the cape.

Ha, well I'm sure that wasn't choreographed strangulation.

I'm not claiming to love it, I'm just saying he did well with a bad situation that he didn't have any say in.

Karen Hardy mentioned on ITT this evening that it was particularly hard because it changed from 8/8 to 6/6 and back again. Or something

The BBC are on a bit of a hiding to nothing on this as there will always be something someone doesn't like.

But they irritate me by constantly trying to "engage" (their word) the younger people who would normally watch X-Factor, by making some poor choices.
It's ratings chasing again They are completely obsessed with this and it can spoil many a programme, by including elements that irritate the core audience.
As if any of us cared how many additional people actually watched.

It's ballroom dancing for heaven's sake. That requires a strict tempo.
I've yet to hear a complaint about the use of classic "standards" which were written for people to be able to dance to them.

Call me old fashioned but I think the Paso Doble should only be danced to appropriate Spanish music while the Viennese Waltz should be danced to a classic Strauss Waltz.
All this use of pop music is a big turn-off!

Believe what you will! She was right with regards to her comments on John Sargent, again the producers put him there to court controversy, and she had to pay for her passion and the fact that it did not go quite the way the producers wanted it to go I'm afraid..........

I am not a fan of Victoria but it was very unfair cause the music made the horrific performance 10x worse.

You are quite right. Even a top professional would have given up trying to capture the essence of the Paso Doble when accompanied by that ludicrous racket !

If Brendon was happy with that music then he has only himself to blame. If he had no choice then he should have told the producer to stuff it!

So did the production team. This was Wembley. They had Victoria, a cyclist. So what better than a flying bike and song about a bike? Dancing? Sod the actual DANCING!

What was going on for that very awkward initial minute or so that only Brendan was on screen, doing his Kate Bush solo tribute with the cape, whilst Victoria was nowhere to be seen? It almost became surreal.

I checked and the 'cape solo' was about 15 seconds long and in this time they were getting Victoria out of the harness.
The music was not Brendan's choice nor was the bicycle stunt, but there is not much the pros can do, especially as the producers wanted to have a big spectacular show on Saturday.

She was being un-harnessed. Remember when he was doing loads of pointless running about up and down the stairs when Lulu was being un-harnessed? I suppose t'was an improvement on that.

I don't know if it is the worst song choice, but it is right up there for me. Dire.

It almost makes me nostalgic for real choreography to Meatloaf so it does.

Did you see him interviewed on Friday's ITT? He didn't seem at all happy about the bicycle stunt, or the music. He was right to be miffed!

HI DR hope you are ok!

I agree completely with the BIB - I don't actually care! I only care whether I like the show or not and that it's on!

which of course then leads to the ratings lol. I KNOW. But I never really look into it!

Great post. I completely agree. Those of us who love dancing like seeing it performed to appropriate music! Why is this so hard for the producers to understand?

I'm getting completely fed up with the use of inappropriate music e.g. the music they have the couples dancing Tango to. When we see Flavia and Vincent doing their magnificent Argentine Tango is it to pop music or proper Tango music? So how the hell do the producers (and the pros if they're responsible) expect the amateurs to get into the part when they use such unsuitable music?

I couldn't even get into Denise's Charleston because I thought the choice of 'Walk Like an Egyptian' was ridiculous. Imagine that same dance to proper Charleston music?

The wrong music is becoming a huge issue for me and actually starting to spoil my enjoyment of the show.

Again, couldn't agree more.
