Rhianna doesn't have one SINGLE writing credit on Unapologetic. (A common argument here is even some music legends didn't write their own songs, but those artists were legends because they were amazing performers or vocalists)

Rhianna cannot dance. Rhianna is a poor singer.

Her current album was written by over 40+ people and suffers for it, lacking cohesion and a theme. She is a big digital seller and singles artist but her album sales are shockingly low WW. That would suggest music fans are happy to spend 1.29 on one of her hits but getting them to part with a tenner is proving somewhat harder.

I agree with most of what you said except albums she is a consistent seller and whilst 25m WW isn't the biggest number on average these days a big album will sell 5m+ with a few ovbious exceptions so thats unfair and her albums always sell highly in the UK during one week Loud sold over 300,00K+ earning an automatic platinum certificate

Would that have been right after the X Factor final 2010?

Don't get me wrong, I love a few of her songs and she has a distinctive voice which is good on record. But the way she is hyped to the extreme without possessing even the basic talents of a pop star means Rihanna is the definition of overrated, for me. One of, if not the worst, current performer I can think of.

Either way its an impressive feat.

I agree i take her on face value and to some extent admire her success however undeserving you feel it is for someone who most thought would sink without a trace after a year she's doing pretty good on it

Also totally stick by what i said about her albums

No one can deny she is a hit maker with her record sales but frankly, yes.
She has an ok voice and vocal range but she doesn't write her own music or compose, though you can argue other artists haven't and that she is starting to work more on her music, however other artists had there voice to go by, when I hear about rihanna I don't hear people talking about her voice just how hot she is and how they'd do her (even girls).
I do like her songs but I don't think her voice is strong enough to make her a legend and give her the status some people claim she has.

She has eleven writing credits on Unapologetic (according to her official website).

Her name just isn't written on the album booklet for some reason.

Absolutely.

Not a good singer, not a good dancer, not a good writer.

You have to have at least one of the above, and she has none.

I don't even find her particularly attractive either..

So Def Jam just forgot to include her name on all the album booklets? Labels lie about their artists stats and achievements all the time. Def Jam said Rih had sold 37+ million albums.

Vastly so. Average singer, average songs (few exceptions). Really trashy girl. B >> Rih.

Rihanna is a good singer with a unique tone and a world class stunner that can work the camera.

So I think she is neither overated or underated.

Yes. Extremely overrated.

I'd say she's more underrated than overrated.

If her records are still played in ten years time, we'll get the answer.

I haven't got a problem with a singer/performer who has no writing input or can't dance that well.
After all music should be about the record/CD, or at least it used to be.

What I do have a problem with is someone who sings through their nose and uses their booty as a selling point.
She is possibly successful because her songs are easily hummable by the current chav music fans ?
Overrated, no more than a lot of chart acts.

She looks great. Not sure why such an old thread has been bumped just for that.

No and she did a good VMA performance, already over 10 years of steady pop anthems. And she sang (partly) live, for a pop act in the female range well done

Massively. She's not particularly talented but she does get the best songs.

I think that's because she *does* have charisma, so people want to see and hear more of her. I still don't think she deserves to be as big as she is though. (Could say that about most of today's superstars to be fair).

She certainly is not a brilliant singer, but then again neither is Katy, Taylor or Britney, so I find them all very much overrated for that reason.

The best pop singers, who I think deserve their hype, are Beyonce, Christina, Ariana, Gaga, Adele, Pink and Kelly Clarkson.

Rihanna is a better singer than Britney, Katy and Taylor put together.

Her recent stuff is a bit dire and she is terrible live. Rated R is my favourite album of hers. No doubt she is a hitmaker but yes vastly overrated.

Really?

I think she's vastly underrated. Her live vocals are better than she gets credited for, with rather sweeping statements of her being a bad live performer which just aren't true really. She's inconsistent at times but she isn't "terrible" by any means. ANTI is her best album imo.
