Hi all. I've just bought a new LG Smart TV and want to connect it to my broadband. To do this i can either use a wireless dongle or ethernet cable, Can i use a cheap dongle such as one of the universal ones which cost about a fiver on ebay or do i have to buy a genuine LG one, And which is best wireless or cable connection? I would need a cable of about 7 metres long to reach the router, Would that length cause problems? Thanks..

cable tends to be 'better' (less risk of dropouts etc) but I have my samsung connected wirelessly via a dongle and its fine - just make sure that you have a reasonable wireless signal where your TV is.

As for the dongle I have a samsung 'proper one'. i couldnt tell you whether a cheapy one would do the same job......

7m is nothing. I've got a 20m lead at home run round the edge of the room to connect my AV kit to my router. 100Mb/s ethernet is good to 100m or so. A 7m cable will be considerably cheaper than a dongle. It is also likely to be easier to set up as well. Pretty much true plug and play.

Some TVs can be very picky about what dongles they want to play with so could need a bit of research to find one that is guaranteed to work.

Which LG Smart TV did you go for and what do you think of it?

I'm getting a new TV about mid December and I do like LG Smart ones but there seems to be an endless variation of them. So all opinions are most welcome from people who actually have one.

I have one and the alleged Smart features are a total waste of time. Basically you're paying over the odds for a crippled computer. Iplayer is about the only thing on it worth a toss.
