That's very close to last year and a pretty good rating, IMO.

Strictly did well in the unadvertised earlier slot.
Millionaire showing TXF what the future holds for a former 19m rated leviathan....

Oh, my bad, I looked at the wrong rating, so its 2 million down on last year, but that's no surprise tbh. It's still a good rating considering the live shows were just scraping 8million viewers.

Homeland slipped back again last night after its season two high last week.
Last week's was the only episode without Downton/IAC/X Factor competition. Although it consolidates consistently around 3m, C4 need to give it a better slot next year to capture more live viewers. They're the ones who pay the bills after all. Why not try Mondays at 9pm, a day after the US? Might stop a few torrents too. |

X Factor did as about as well as expected and the drop on last year looks roughly in line with how the live shows have gone. It had a fair average and peak all things considered.
It will be interesting to see how Britain's Got Talent does this year, and whether X Factor will have a knock on effect on how well that does. The reverse has happened previously. |

I suppose starting it earlier was the first mistake.
I still hold the view that it shouldn't be starting at 8pm (even it has worked okay in the past) Also no show (including the final) should last longer than 90 minutes. It will never get the ratings of 2009 and 2010 (bar 'discovering' the next Leona Lewis), but it can still do a solid job for ITV. |

The most recent Sky At Night went out on BBC4 last Thursday, repeated yesterday afternoon on BBC2 and shown again tomorrow night at Midnight on BBC1.
I expect the next SAN at the start of Janaury will be a special tribute to Sir Patrick. I don't think the BBC like to rush their tributes these days. Their tribute to Clive Dunn is premiered next Saturday night on BBC2, over a month after he died. Take your time and do it properly. |

Also to make sure that ITV are not going to dig up some dirt on the deceased just after they have shown their tribute show, not that I think anybody would other than his well known and entirely valid in his case of Germans.

Sunday 9th December 2012
BBC One 18:00 - Countryfile: 6.66m (28.6%) 19:00 - Strictly Come Dancing: 9.95m (37.7%) * peak: 10.90m (40.3%) at 19:30 19:40 - Antiques Roadshow: 5.82m (20.9%) 20:40 - Rome's Lost Empire: 3.93m (14.3%) 22:00 - BBC News: 4.44m (19.9%) 22:25 - Match of the Day 2: 2.87m (19.1%) Quote:
ITV1 That's not too bad for X-Factor considering how the series has gone. Was expecting around 11m average but obviously very disappointing compared to the last few years.18:25 - ITV News: 2.52m (10.8%) 18:40 - Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire?: 2.84m (11.2%) , +1: 130k (0.5%) 19:40 - The X Factor Final: 10.94m (39.1%) , +1: 133k (0.6%) * see above for peaks, comparisons etc 21:40 - Rod Stewart's Christmas: 3.51m (16.3%) , +1: 101k (0.9%) 22:55 - ITV News: 1.78m (12.1%) Quote:
Channel 4 Some brilliant film ratings there. Elf always does big numbers, very popular film and I'm sure there are many who watch it every year around this time. The Expendables also a bit of a shock considering it started during X-Factor's peak period, and rare to see C5 over 2million anyway let alone against X-Factor.17:20 - FILM: Elf: 3.50m (15.4%) , +1: 654k (2.5%) Channel 5 21:00 - FILM: The Expendables: 2.02m (8.6%) , +1: 283k (2.2%) Quote:
Sky Sports 1 Big numbers for the football yesterday too.
13:00 - Live Ford Super Sunday: 2.34m (18.8%) * peak: 3.21m (22.5%) at 15:20 15:30 - Live Ford Super Sunday: 1.89m (10.4%) * peak: 2.35m (10.9%) at 17:50 |

Elf doing the business again for Channel 4, they seem to show it every year, right?
Channel 5's 9pm movie also did great. Again, nothing surprising about TXF final rating |

ITV really need to think about ditching these hourlong music shows around The X Factor. Bieber, McFly, Rod Stewart, Katherine Jenkins. Nobody cares.

The final weekend seems to have got a bit of a lift from somewhere. Both ratings about a million higher than would have been reasonably expected heading into the weekend. Year on year it has been the best weekend of the series (although that doesn't say too much!), a bit of a surprise considering the gap had been widening lately.
I get an overnight series average of 9m including +1 (but those bootcamp figures still seem unreliable). Either way, it's bang in the middle of all series to date, ahead of the first four from 2004-2007 but behind 2008-2011. |

Of course it got a lift from somewhere, it was the final!!
You would expect the passive casual viewers who have become less committed would at least tune in for the end, even if only to see the final reveal. A peak of 12m for that is rather pitiful. |

These are no longer "entertainment specials" but extended advertorials, like you get on QVC. |

So the peak including +1 is higher than 2007 which is a good sign.
A respectable rating but they need to change it around a bit. |

I guess the record companies must pay well, it's all about the bottom line.
