Hardly. It is rated as a certain renewal by tvbythenumbers
http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...bubble/160866/
and is the best performing new drama on NBC in many years.

You are right though that the mid-season breaks in serialised dramas rarely do them favours (and networks would do better switching to the US cable method of 13 eps normally aired non-stop rather than 22/24 with multiple interruptions) but Revolution has done so stonkingly well that nothing short of a 70% drop in its ratings would keep it from having a second season now.

On the same Tuesday last year ITV's ratings were:

My Child's Not Perfect: 1.64m

It might be unacceptable but it's certainly not unusual.

not quite, I was having a dig at Robbie

I have to agree with you on the 13 episode season runs. The standard NCIS and CSi's can get away with 24 episodes a season, but something which is pretty high concept would benefit from a shorter 13 week run. A tighter hold on the scripts and less filler certainly makes a series. For those that do enjoy it, I hope that it continues.

Lost had the right idea when they decided the final three seasons would be 16 episodes each although Lost was affected by the writer's strike so the fourth season was only 14 episodes but they added more episodes to season five and six. Some shows like Smash and the Following are only 15-16 episodes.

16-18 episodes should be the number for serialized dramas while procedural and comedy should remain at 22-24 episodes.

Will The X-Factor even make the final Top 20 once the Christmas programmes are included?

ABC:
8pm - Santa Claus is Comin' To Town - 5.64m (1.7)
9pm - Happy Endings - 3.28m (1.3)
9.30pm - Don't Trust the B... - 2.51m (1.0)
10pm - Private Practice - 3.77m (1.2)

CBS:
8pm - NCIS - 17.51m (2.8)
9pm - NCIS:LA - 14.97m (2.6)
10pm - Vegas - 10.28m (1.5)

FOX:
8pm - Raising Hope - 4.03m (1.7)
8.30pm - Ben & Kate (R) - 2.27m (0.8)
9pm - New Girl - 4.24m (2.0)
9.30pm - The Mindy Project - 3.03m (1.4)

NBC:
8pm - The Voice - 11.31m (3.5)
9pm - Take It All - 7.35m (2.3)
10pm - Parenthood - 5.71m (2.0)

Tvbythenumbers

NETWORKS:
#1 - NBC - 8.12m (2.6) - Up 18% from same night 2011
#2 - CBS - 14.25m (2.3) - Down 21%
#3 - FOX - 3.39m (1.5) - Down 48%
#4 - ABC - 4.10m (1.3) - Down 13%

NCIS was down 20% from its last original episode and the same night a year ago, posting its lowest rated episode in nearly 8 years.

New Girl was down 39% year on year although probably not helped by having a 0.8 lead-in compared to a 3.0+ from Glee this time last year.

Take It all actually up a tenth from Monday, which is fairly surprising. Tonight it has to find its feet however because there will be no big lead-in from The Voice. Instead it follows what is likely to be a dismally low rated repeat of Guys With Kids.

seems no channel appart from bbc1 on tue nights has any show rating above 4 million so clear to see why many of bbc1s tue night dramas get good ratings as no challange from anything else at all!
why bbc1 has to keep showing holby at 8pm when it could try out mass new shows and face no opposition therefore making them instant hits!

what line up on say itv would do well on tue night when no footy???? a celebrity edition of the chase at 8pm? a film at 8pm or?????

Looks about right. It'll be interesting to see how Take Me Out does back in its normal slot. Will it bounce back or will Strictly and the extra run have caused permanent damage?

Very strong schedule from BBC One in the New Year apart from Saturday night. I think BBC One will win at 9pm all week apart from Wednesday.

BBC Ones Animal Antics doesnt sound good and not sure about Britains Brightests chances. On Sunday I think Ripper Street will have the better of Mr Selfridge. Ripper Street looks good in the trailers and Dancing on Ices results show wont provide good lead ins for Mr Selfridge because Family Fortunes will sap away all the momentum from the first DoI.

Interesting changes to ITV1's schedule compared to previous years, obviously with no Wild at Heart, but you can tell Dancing on Ice is drawing the short straw to a degree.

Also, that BBC One Saturday schedule I have to say looks horrible.

I'm surprised Call the Midwife isn't there, it's been confirmed for early 2013, and it would give Ripper Street the advantage over Mr Selfridge.

Although effectively the reason Revolution is having such a long break is to allow it to run as uninterupted as possible when it does return.

Interesting taking out the sport and judging just series that ITV have BGT, Corrie, Downton, I'm a Celebrity and X Factor in the Top 7 while the BBC have The Voice and Strictly. Anyone know where Call the Midwife comes on the chart - from the way the BBC had been talking about it you'd assume it was the highest rated drama of the year.

Looking at BBC1 I'm suddenly not so sure Splash! will be a flop - celebs in swimwear making fools of themselves sounds far more appealing than "Britain's Brightest".

And looks like Dancing on Ice is back to the early starts then, as I think it was when it first moved to Sundays with 8.30pm result shows, unless Mr Selfridge will move to 8.30pm when it switches to hour-long episodes.

Parenthood seems to be doing well for NBC. Obviously the whole night has been boosted immeasurably by The Voice, but it seems comfortingly stable for them. I wouldn't have backed it to be topping PP and (in particular) Vegas so resoundingly if you'd asked me at the beginning of the season.

The comedy blocks are increasingly looking like terrible moves for both Fox and ABC. The latter's sitcoms have a tradition of collapsing unless they're safely housed in the Modern Family-protected Wednesday block - while Fox are now looking way too ambitious with their attempt to open up a 4-show block. The most worrying effect of it all, though, isn't what's happened to the new shows. It's what the scheduling has done to New Girl - their "big new thing" of last year. Ouch.

More ratings from yesterday:

The Chase - 3.52m (23.4%), *peak: 4.26m (24.6%) at 17:50
Last Tango in Halifax - 6.04m (25.4%)
The Xtra Factor (Best & Worst) - 407k (1.8%)

Show Me What You're Made of: 436k (3.6%).

I'm intrigued to know if BARB release 1 minute data. If so i'd be interested to see a one minute peak for the X Factor final on Sunday.

Splash certainly looks to have fairly limited competition but we've seen in January in recent years that viewers are quite capable of avoiding both main channels.

I still think an "all in one" DOI would be the best option and probably deliver a better lead-in for Mr Selfridge as well.
