He knows this, it's just he needs to make a comparison with TXF or Cowell after every programme.

No doubt whatever the ratings are on Christmas Day will have some link to Cowell.

Ooh, a point you haven't made for at least 10 hours. Nice one. And another highly constructive addition to a thread about TV ratings.

I've just had a quick look and I'd estimate that a good 90% of threads, maybe more, are about the upcoming series in one way or another. Housemates from 10 years ago probably account for about 0.1% of recently active threads. I wonder what is worse anyway- using a Big Brother forum to, shock horror, talk about Big Brother, or using the board to repeatedly make unpleasant comments about what others choose to come on here and talk about, often taking threads on an off-topic course in the process?

If they do want to talk about a series from years ago, so what. It causes no harm. I daresay an outsider might find it a little bit odd when old TV ratings are discussed in here, as the relevance in the year 2012 is almost zilch, so different was the TV landscape back then. But guess what, if they aren't interested, they probably won't be reading the Ratings Thread anyway. The same way you probably shouldn't be reading the Big Brother subforum if you're not interested in Big Brother. It doesn't give you or anyone else the right to show contempt towards fellow forum users just because they are fond of or interested in something that you are not, no matter how trivial or passé it might seem.

I think SPOTY will timeshift by at least a million. Strictly may beat BGT, in fact it seems very likely.

So, now that all consolidated figures are out for XF, what does it's series average look like?

I think next year could be ITV1's year if they get BGT right. They are already halfway there, sticking with the same panel. Now they would need to show good acts throughout. I'd like a change from the normal singers/dancers that win every year.

I'm a bit interested at the fact SPOTY managed a 57% at 10pm in the winter on Sunday, usually even at that time it wouldn't even crack 50% but I guess the weather wasn't all that bad

You take Channel 5 too seriously. Hobby needed.

Brilliant rating for SPOTY... deserved mammoth figures for a brilliant show celebrating the best year British sport has ever seen.

ITV didn't collapse either, although in a half decent slot there drama could have pulled in around 5 + million?

Thanks Andy.

What's interesting is that once ITV try a bit harder the ratings are closer and BBC1 doesn't pull away like in some previous years. 2011 was the first time in years that we didn't see a programme get over 10m on Christmas Day. Will that be the case again this year?

Did this happen to be a celebrity special? Heck, this year they couldn't even get higher than 3m being pitted before the XF final. The only way they'd get ratings this high is if they get Boris Johnson to play

Was this a terrestrial premiere? Very high ratings, wouldn't see them these days unless ITV1 premiered a Harry Potter film.

Shame BBC1 couldn't go for a similar Xmas day with a new short special which could go on to rate pretty well (hell, this Wallace & Gromit one had 16.15m officially).

Got to be the highest for ASFF for a while. It'd be interesting to see if it could beat it this year.

When is the Outnumbered Christmas special being aired, and what ratings would you predict? Considering last year's special had over 7m, I predict around that amount, if not more.

Dancing dog. But there have been more singers/dancers winning than others. A gymnast group won in 2010 and the dancing dog won this year.

I personally favour it over XF in terms of entertainment.

no channel can really claim to have had a great year with the sport in summer helping bbc1 but without it from autum onwards hardly been great ratings outside of strictly and s.p.o.t.y on sunday on bbc1 . channel 4 seems worse hit this year by low ratings.
more and more looks like them choosing not to have big bro a big mistake as the increase in ad revenue would surly help invest in more shows.

As well as the greater variety of acts featured, I think Ant & Dec deserve a lot of credit for BGT's success. They are very much a key part of it. The whole thing feels more fun and less cynical than TXF with them hosting.

Channel 4 have had the Paralympics which have been their highest ratings in a few years, so this must be one of their best years.

Ant and Dec carry both Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity... I think Britain's Got Talent would survive without them but Simon Cowell would have to turn down the cynicism. Part of me wonders whether they should look at changing the presenter on The X Factor to try and add a comedic edge; not that Dermot is a bad presenter but maybe he's too serious for a role which needs a lighter touch? I don't think I'm A Celebrity... would have a chance without the Geordie duo, though.

As for last night what a staggering set of ratings for BBC One even though people were sniffing out the 10m for Sports Personality of the Year. Strictly Come Dancing appears to have been boosted with the higher than usual lead out - is that the first time this year (or, indeed, ever) that the Sunday show has beaten the Saturday programme? Countryfile and the news rounded off a superb night for the BBC.

The Making of a Lady didn't record a dire figure; why ITV didn't start it alongside Sports Personality instead of half an hour into it is anyone's guess. Obviously very few cared about ET's birthday; especially as he went home thirty years ago. I feel ITV, with their rather dour programming, are going to see a few more ratings like last night as the week goes on.

The Da Vinci Code performed decently for Channel 5 as the films continue to be as reliable as ever but Homeland on Channel 4 was hit slightly by the increased opposition - didn't it hold up better than that against Downton Abbey?

Same. If I were a betting man, this is the flutter I'd make.

I'm sure BBC One will peak well for the crossover of Call the Midwife and EE - but I would think Corrie and Downton are going to hold down too many viewers on the other side for either to average 10m+.

Actually, the best outside bet might be Strictly Come Dancing. The first Emmerdale is likely to get mauled by Doctor Who (head-start) and Paul O'Grady could therefore be very weak as opposition for it.

“Was this a terrestrial premiere? Very high ratings, wouldn't see them these days unless ITV1 premiered a Harry Potter film.
”

Shrek The Third got 7.2m overnights at 3.10pm two years ago. I expect Shrek Forever After to do similar in the same slot this year. Shrek has always been a strong ratings player for the BBC.

Shrek is BBC1's key to Christmas Day victory, It'll capture the audience early. The other key to victory is Paul O'Grady: For The Love Of Dogs which will get trounched by Strictly. It's an unusual choice for Christmas Day and just seems so out of place.

Exactly, while people are excited by its high ratings, it is obviously down to the fact that it was an Olympic year and it was going to be a close competition. That is the reason for the high rating and it obviously won't be on the same scale next year.

Why the roll eyes? The 57% came at 22:25....

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...postcount=3436

Total audience broke down as:

21:45 - 27.4m
21:50 - 27.4m
21:55 - 27.5m
22:00 - 26.9m
22:05 - 26.1m
22:10 - 25.8m
22:15 - 25.5m
22:20 - 25.3m
22:25 - 25.2m

In what way is that unusual? If anything the audience was higher than usual from 22:00 to 22:30 thanks to SPOTY when it normally would have been only about ~22m/23m when the News is on.

I thought it was unusual because in the winter, on a Sunday, we would be seeing 30m total audience.

Still, as mentioned before, staggering figure.
