And Caroline Aherne writing a sitcom about security guards with Bobby Ball and Brendan O'Carroll aka Mrs Brown. That was announced earlier this year. Also at the ITV Upfronts they said more comedy was on the horizon.
Caroline Aherne and Writing in the same sentence. Are you mad?

Fiona Bruce just signed off Antiques Roadshow with a fart gag.

I think the new DG should do the decent thing and fall on his sword...

Hopefully BBC can start Strictly after 7pm next year. Theyre always at a disadvantage starting SCD so early and they shouldnt be scared of showing SCD from after 7pm in the future because its established itself as most popular entertainment show.
Yeah, cos Strictly is really disadvantaged in its 6.30 slot.

Saturday 24th November 2012
BBC One
18:40 - Strictly Come Dancing: 10.25m (42.3%)
* peak: 11.55m (46.4%) at 19:50

ITV1
20:00 - The X Factor: 8.01m (33.1%), +1: 229k (1.0%)
* peak: 8.89m (36.8%) at 20:45
21:50 - I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!: 8.03m (36.2%), +1: 497k (3.5%)
* peak: 8.63m (37.6%) at 22:10

Indeed afaik neither she or Brendan are involved anymore and it was first announced over 2 years ago now..... So don't wait around for it.

Strictly wouldve got even more viewers if it started after 7oclock. Look at the 5 minute ratings DMN posted, it rises a lot during the show. If it started after 7pm, its ratings would be even better

Poor TXF - 2.2m behind the biggest show of the weekend, and 2.2m ahead of Merlin the show it goes head to head with.

Imagine if 2 or 3 years ago I'd said TXF's Saturday ratings will be bang on midway between Merlin and SCD.

I'd have been laughed off the thread!

Salford and Manchester-filmed The Security Men will star Oldham-born comic turned actor Bobby Ball alongside Ashes To Ashes and Marchlands star Dean Andrews.

The four-part ITV1 sitcom was created and written by Wythenshawe-raised Aherne and Jeff Pope, who were also the team behind comedy drama The Fattest Man In Britain.

Due on screen in 2012, it features the men on the night shift at a fictional Manchester shopping centre called The Whittington.

Sounded familiar. Plaza Patrol from 1991.

Cannon and Ball star as security guards Trevor and Bernard at the Margaret Thatcher Plaza shopping centre

Let's hope she forgot to write that one too!

Sounds awful. Plaza Patrol was bad enough, and effectively finished Cannon & Ball's careers.

Very true. I dont see any improvement its been left with a bunch of bland males who seem to be channelling the spirit of Brookstein, Cardle, Ward and ...the other one

Strictly started at 6.40 last night.

And I don't see that first 20 minutes last night making much difference to the overall average. Nor will be the BBC be complaining about an overnight average of 10.25m, especially when ITV's two big shows last night were both trailing at 8m, and still trailing by a large margin even when +1 was added on.

The BBC has got the Strictly schedule dead right this year, starting at 6.30 or finishing at 8pm depending on the running-length. (Next Saturday's show is 70 minutes long so it starts at 6.50). It's late enough to keep the ratings up and early enough to avoid X Factor and the possible fuss that a clash might provoke. Plus Strictly has to record the results show on Saturday so they have to allow time for that.

Well you're the one that went out of your way to point out that it was down year on year -300k!!
Without giving the reason. So it must make a big difference in your world.

How will 15 minutes effect the results? It aired at 7pm for the last few weeks in 2011 and if they shifted later this year then so would the X Factor. The X Factor already did it in October this year.
Anyway they clashed for 10-15 minutes most of the time last year and nobody cared. So fuss is a nonsense excuse.

Well I said the same about Neighbours at the height of its popularity in 1988, saying people would see through the show, and eventually I was proved right as it now does the rounds on Channel 5 to 1.5 million viewers and is hardly ever mentioned, though to be fair, this is big for Channel 5.

Channel 5 changed their schedule to air a tribute to Larry Hagman at 9pm. Dirty Harry was pushed back to 9.30pm.

Hope the F1 peaked high tonight. Think it will be just over 6m peak due to the football, but it really deserves to be over 7m, even higher than that.

I doubt TXF will still be going in 2035 to 25 viewers on Channel 732

Haven't BBC One commissioned a new puppet show form the creators of the Muppet. In that case they could push Strictly later and put the puppet thing on before?

Or is that not for next year? The chest looks bare to me.

Ken
I think they just commissioned a pilot of that one. So it might appear as a full series - or equally it might not if the pilot stinks.

In terms of a direct replacement for Merlin, the obvious one there is The Musketeers, which is a big 10 episode internationally-funded commission which seems along the same lines. But I've seen 2014 slated for that. I think it'll be a combination of Who and the Lottery alongside SCD next year (if indeed, Merlin is finished).

I think it will be gone next year. Actually what I've seen of this series hasn't been bad, but it's coming to the end of its life.
Maybe in 2035 clips might appear on some TV Hell show so people can laugh at what we used to watch.

There will be some red faces if there is no such announcement at midnight.
Not mine though. I love being right!

Just saw the rating for the X factor. It really is below standard this year and lacks a spark. Not surprised by the poor rating. Strictly deserves to be ahead. It has a great line up with well known contestants and that is the reason the show is doing well.

this is why I hate Twitter, I will wait for official news from the BBC.
Will this do?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/lat...lin-final.html

Ah yes!

The Cultbox article where the visual effects guy did some back pedalling. Yes he meant himself. Sure he did! *cough* And as I said that wasn't the only story, there were all of the other stories coming from the production location of actors signed to new jobs, the horses being sold etc. The clues were there. It wasn't exactly difficult to workout what was going on with the show.

If I can work it out anybody can work it out! Learn to read between the lines people.

It certainly had a bit of everything as a race - the championship twists and turns, the overtakes, crashes, rain, retirements, emotional farewells, surreal moments (including a driver having to do a u-turn in a dead-end whilst trying to find a short cut to rejoin the circuit - a first I think ).

And, of course, the ceremonial handing over of the crown of the Luckiest Driver in F1 History from one German champion to another - Vettel was certainly smiled on by the Gods on his way to the title this season, and in this race in particular! Grrr...

Merlins end confirmed
I see Danny Cohen says he has "ambitious plans for Saturday night drama in 2013".

Hm.

Casualty moving back to 8.15pm?

Juliet Bravo - The Next Generation?

Probably The Three Musketeers and Dr Who in all likelihood, but Merlin will certainly be missed!
