Some shows could be doing so much better on Channel 4 but their scheduling really is atrocious at the moment.

Peep Show is a critical darling and an awards magnet, that's why they keep making it. I can't stand the programme and think you get more laughs from Mrs Brown's Boys.

Kookyville was dreadful I can see that figure dropping. Him & Her is suffering on Sundays but I just don't see the appeal myself.

Good +1 uplift.

Because it's a good show?

Silly scheduling though. Haven't a clue what's going on C4 lately.

Great F1 figures, given that Brazil is now a late afternoon race rather than early evening one (when peaks of 9m were common).

Good for SCD to be 10m+ on Sunday and well ahead of both of ITV's big hitters. TXF's peak is now a million miles off (indeed, about 4 millions miles off!) what results shows used to average!

Surprised that Crickley held firm after dropping steadily over the hour last week. I gave up on it though last night, all a bit dull and "done before" for me. Nothing like as good as I expected it to be.

Shame Peep Show was sub 1m. The Homeland-comedy double header isn't working, and obviously it isn't true that putting this and FND out on Friday was depriving millions of its target audience access. What it probably shows is that the target audience are still finding it, and are smaller in number than thought, but the "casuals" aren't.

If i was ITV i would be quite worried that there's clearly 2 million people still interested in TXF result but not interested enough to watch for more then 10 minutes... unless they were all coming over to prepare for IAC?

the last 15min generally peak, unless they've got an outstanding guest star

the other 45 mins are fluff, neither TXT or SCD results show should be over 30 mins IMO

I think his return would up the ratings regardless but getting popular judges back would up the game. Even Sharon back would be something.”

ITV will be fine with 'only' 9m. It's a huge way down from where it has been, but if they put next years as the last one then would ITV realistically be able to replace it with something that rates as well? You just need to look at the Big Brother on Channel 4 situation. Not only that, but it is still one of the most profitable shows on TV because of the audience it pulls in, and if ITV had the choice between airing X Factor to 8m viewers or SCD to 10m viewers, I genuinely think they'd stick with X Factor.

It needs a massive shake up for next year, but even if they kept it the same I couldn't see it taking another 25% drop, purely because the more an audience falls, the closer to its base audience it becomes. I don't think X Factor's base audience is much lower than 8m. Sundays have generally been peaking above 11m so it shows that there is still interest there (even if it is one of the worst series ever), but something isn't right for so many to not watch the whole show.

Disappointing, however the last series in 2010 launched to 885k (3.8%) [+1 151k] on a Friday night 10pm slot so I guess it isn't that far down. It has never been a particularly big rater. There was one series in 2009 when ratings went into the mid to high 1millions though.

The two year gap since the last episode won't have helped ratings but Peep Show has already been commissioned for a ninth series in 2013 anyway.

Well of course that was always the case - it's just the numbers were average 14-15m and peak of 17-18m.

I think what will worry ITV is the fact that 17-18m is now 11-12m!

And as others have said, of course they will want to plough on with it because what else could bank those audiences in 2013 if the show was axed?

So the problem they have essentially is keeping their advertisers sweet - and they won't be paying 2009 prices for airtime when only 9-11m are watching, and certainly not paying the Superbowl prices for the Final which used to keep GeorgeS in a priapic state for weeks!

only 16 shows of TXF rated above 14m since its launch, the average seemed to be consistently around 10-13m

every year is different, so the assumption that the show will have 12 acts as uninspiring as this year's bunch might be a reach. Similarly assuming the interest in SCD will be this good next year could be misplaced

I mean someone as basic as dumping dull Tulisa for brash Mel B might shake the viewers (though she wasn' exactly a raging Saturday night success with This Is My Moment)

Who know maybe ITV & BBC will get creative with their schedules and not hang everything on one or two Saturday night shows

here's hoping

I'm guessing that peak is repectable but I'd expect the average to stay above 9m for both shows next week.

Well that is not a surprise as the Sunday night results shows were only introduced in 2009 and last year was the first year of decline.

The average for 2009/10 results shows (which Robbie is talking about) were was far more than 10m it was around 14m iirc and advertisers are expecting/paying for 2010/11 ratings not 2007!

Well I didn't know that the new series of Peep Show was on at all.

Just by chance I flicked over to channel 4 last night and they said it was on after the next programme. That's the only way I knew it was going to be on. By sheer luck.

That may be so, but Peep Show has never rated particularly well anyway so I doubt it would be doing much better in any other slot or with more promotion.

It's a good programme but I can certainly see why it wouldn't be for everyone.

You're probably right.

I think the quality makes it a worthwhile venture and I think that they probably accept that it's not going to be the type of show that will achieve massive ratings anyway.
