Notes
- * means that the programme is still currently airing and its average will change
- The percentage change in brackets after the programme's name is the ratings rise or fall compared to the previous series.
- [STV] means that these dramas weren't shown in Scotland and therefore these averages are automatically about 7-9% lower than if they had been fully networked.
- The ITV drama year-on-year differences are based on comparing this year's (inc +1) figures to last year's (inc +1) figures. They also take into account if a programme was fully networked last series and not fully networked this year (or vice versa) so that the % rise/fall is an accurate representation of how the series has done in the areas it's actually been shown in.

Wolfblood is good

Aliens vs Wizards less so, but that could be because of Russell T Davies factor (has he done anything brilliant since Bob & Rose?)

I predict a 5-7 Million average maybe for ITV to recommission it. It looks ok but nothing original or exciting. But if it kicks 2013 off with big ratings for ITV, then so be it.

Wolfblood is a good show. More realistic with its characters than other CBBC shows. Wizards Vs Aliens I like and RTD has done a good job in keeping that action sci fi factor that he had with SJA.

I only hope CBBC can go up from here with their content and ratings.

Something todo with the Bigish football match over on ITV1 I suspect.

looking at the ratings the great British public lack of enthusiasm for the football, was second only to my own.

Its probably because Chelsea are had a rubbish Champions League campaign. Compared to Celtic, Man Utd and others in Europe. Sounds like ITV need to bargain a better deal next season.

with low ratings does football from champions league etc still prove value to itv in terms of the type of audience sum advertisers want ?

seems if it wasnt on itv channel 5 would soon snap it up , if the later stages of champions league where on itv and the earlier rounds group stages on itv4 wouldnt this leave the tue night line up free on itv to show other shows and not dip in ratings ? however even without champions league on tue night theres v v few tues itv done well! know later stages of footy will do better but seems early stages best on itv 4

with splash launching in january with dancing on ice does this mean all big entertainment and new dramas be crammed in to launch the new itv branding and look then by march all will be used up and dip in ratings will happen till bgt launches in may hope not!

splash will be bit of fun and at least not dragged out for months depends on what celebs take part seems the cast for strictly and im a celeb right this year so hopefully splash and dancing on ice be good line ups

The ratings weren't great for Chelsea last night by any means, but some of these comments are a bit OTT.

The demos would have been excellent at least and the other major positive is that the ITV faithful who weren't interested successfully migrated over to ITV2 and ITV3, which had almost 2m between them at 9pm, with low cost programming no less, more than making up for ITV1's shortcomings.

I think the main problem with the Champs League from ITV's point-of-view is I can't see a British club coming close to winning it this year, so it may be that the serious ratings potential isn't realised at all this season. Just one of those things that they can't do much about, and might help them to negotiate a better deal next time around if the trend continues. Picking up the Europa rights was savvy as a backup option although serious progression for the British clubs also seems unlikely in that competition.

There should be a point when they can hit a million on a regular basis. An episode of Sarah Jane Adventures had 993k, CBBC's highest ever audience back in 2010, and that series started with a lower audience than Wizards vs Aliens. Tracy Beaker Returns did pretty well earlier this year, with three episodes reaching over 800k.

Until the end of the year, will we ever see a pretty high rating? Maybe X Factor could surprise us over the next few weeks but I highly doubt it, the I'm a Celebrity final could rate highly, as could Strictly.

Holly Willoughby was AWOL from This Morning today. Phil said she was filming a secret special that will be 'very good' but he cannot tell us about yet...

ITV seem to be giving her more to do. Perhaps her Voice gig is worrying them about the beeb poaching her.

Its the Rod Stewart christmas special she is hosting.

Sports Personality of the Year must be massive this year.

What ratings has that gotten in previous years?

The main nightmare for ITV now is if Man U go out the campaign in the second round, then they're left with a tournament only 3 million at best would watch and moving the games to ITV4 would not please UEFA. Also 3.7 million was poor last night and it seems the post Olympics mood about football is persisting as ratings seem to be down all the way through the group stages.

Killer ITV 1 line up tonight of Emmerdale, Corrie and IAC, I will see with interest how ITV1 does in the 7-10 pm slot. I reckon 7-9 million all the way through and judging by the way the fitba has gone for English teams in Europe, moving Corrie to Wednesdays has been a masterstroke and puts the show back in its rightful home.

Brilliant start for Last Tango in Halifax - just proves you can't underestimate the power of some comfy warm drama with a large portion of the Great British Public! Easily out-rates all of that more fashionable, Olympic-promoted fare, from Good Cop to Hunted. One of the most positive DS threads I've seen in some time and a completely stable breakdown too, so though next week is a challenge I don't think we'll be seeing a collapse.

Many thanks to rzt for the comprehensive list of drama averages this year. Always a fascinating read.

What is striking is how far BBC One's slate of returning dramas have been whittled down. Waking the Dead, Spooks, Ashes to Ashes, Lark Rise all gone, Hustle appearing for the last time and uncomfortable double-digit falls for other older shows. It does put a lot more pressure on the younger dramas. On that note, the year started sensationally with Sherlock and Call the Midwife, but proceeded to fade as the months went by. However, while some of these new shows aren't huge bankers, I suppose they can be pleased to emerge from a year with at least 4 returning series (Midwives, Prisoners Wives, Syndicate and Paradise - and maybe Tango to follow). Much depends on whether their second runs offer stability and a potential for more returns, or fade away into nothing.

ITV1 will probably be pleased with a solid year - though a little disappointed that their new slate has only turned up one obvious returnable show (and a very predictable one at that!). That's a pretty disappointing return, compared to the past few years, although looking back Bletchley Circle doesn't seem the flop I managed to write it off as. On the whole, the established crime dramas did well with Above Suspicion, Whitechapel, Law & Order and DCI Banks all up by varying degrees, along with generally fairly soft falls for Vera, Midsommer and Scott & Bailey. And, of course, they can always fall back on Downton which has done amazingly to creep forward again, despite less potent lead-ins.

Remember they have got a strong performer in Death In Paradise returning next year.

Sport's Personality should be massive this year. Aside from all the media promo and post Olympics interest it will have a Strictly lead-in of 10million +

Don't think it has had a Strictly lead-in before on the same night without X-Factor as competition.

So far this season is up on last season with the exception of the opening 2 matches. 3 out of 5 have averaged over 4m which is good, but unless ITV manage to score over 5m for the last group match, I doubt they'll be happy. Man Utd and Arsenal will make it through to last 16 (maybe even Celtic and Chelsea too). I think ITV's last group game will be Dortmund v Man City.
