My wife is a huge downton fan but even she says 2hr is to much. Plus the family is around so the BBC One line up appeals to everyone so no one is left out. I do think Downton may be stronger this year.

EastEnders has some work to do!

There's still a few films that haven't been shown on terrestrial television. The Dark Knight being the most obvious and also The Hangover and 2012.”

Hmm, usually it'd take a bit longer for it to be aired in the UK, taking into consideration the likes of Toy Story 3 and The Karate Kid are nowhere to be seen on terrestrial TV.

More ratings which haven't been posted:

ITV1
06:00 - Daybreak: 730k (18.2%)
08:35 - Lorraine: 1.05m (21.5%)
09:25 - Jeremy Kyle Show: 1.32m (26.8%)
10:30 - This Morning: 1.06m (21.7%)
11:25 - ITV News: 1.20m (25.4%)
11:30 - This Morning: 1.15m (22.7%)
12:30 - Loose Women: 933k (14.3%)
13:30 - ITV News and Weather: 882k (13.1%)
14:00 - Crime Stories: 772k (12.2%)

BBC One
15:35 - Prank Patrol Down Under: 364k (4.6%)
16:00 - ROY: 268k (2.8%)
16:30 - VIP People: 352k (3.1%)
17:00 - Newsround: 608k (4.7%)

Just to give you an idea as to how children's TV is doing on BBC One at the moment. From what I've heard, the CBeebies Christmas Panto will be simulcast on BBC One and CBeebies on 21st December, the final day of kids programming on BBC1 (should give CBeebies their highest rating of the year).

BBC Three
21:00 - Russell Howard's Good News - 731k (3%)
21:30 - Impractical Jokers - 378k (1.6%)
22:00 - World's Craziest Fools - 505k (2.7%)

CBBC
16:00 - Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated: 354k (3.7%)
17:15 - Leonardo: 202k (1.4%)
17:45 - Blue Peter: 194k (1.1%)
*last week: 184k (1.0%)

CBeebies
16:45 - Grandpa In My Pocket: 351k (3.0%)
17:00 - Octonauts: 438k (3.4%)
17:10 - Rastamouse: 399k (2.8%)
17:25 - Tree Fu Tom: 429k (2.8%)

I got the CBBC and CBeebies ratings using the 5-minute data/averages.”

Quite a thrashing from CBeebies for CBBC looking at those ratings in the same slot.

There's a bit for everyone on BBC1 I think and tbh I know EastEnders is going to be fine. They have a lot of storylines coming up over the festive season and just looking at the lead up to aswell looks much stronger than last year.
I think the second week of December will see EastEnders rise a bit. Of course Next Monday's episode will be hit quite some by stronger comp on ITV1.

I think the BBC Two schedule could pull in viewers wanting something other than antiques, gossip, punch ups and car boot sales. If I was off work and the internet was down and the weather was terrible, BBC Two mornings look very tempting.

I agree with you I think EE will be able to pull it back but it's starting to get very interesting. Will be interesting to see if EE can increase next year because this year has been a stinker and it can only improve. If it drops again! Okay there's a problem.

I predict they have a better year. They need more support from BBC One though. The show is being treated poorly in my opinion. They need to shout loud to let people know that it's going to kick off otherwise they will see little benefit.

Changing the subject. Lot's of people at work talking about SPOTY 2012. Think it could be big this year. Last year was just a disaster from the day the short list was announced. I can't wait should be an excellent show.

Is 933k quite low for Loose Women as I'm sure it was as high as 2 million in the noughties?

Without going into it too much in Lorraine Interview she seems to want what the fans want and there's big storylines coming from some of the popular and older characters. She plans to re-build families aswell.

As for the BBC this year promotion from them has been sh*t
they have not even bothered to promote some of their big storylines at all which is a shame but hey i know things will be fine around xmas & New year

I agree. I don't think the idea of repeats is a bad one at all. In fact I think the schedule brings BBC Two back to how it used to be. It's only recently that BBC Two has had big daytime shows such as Ready Steady Cook, The Weakest Link, Flog It and all off the others. BBC Two should offer something different not just the same stuff as the other side.

Bring it on in my opinion.

Well, the 2 December 2009 edition got 2.21m in the officials. But it being daytime, I think it'd become an issue if it really falls below 600-700k.

She seems to say the right things which is good. But can she do it? She is an EastEnders fan and devote who has worked on it for some time so naturally she's going to know what they want more than Kirkwood who didn't. Her material comes through next year and that's when I make my decision whether she is any good.

The only big promotion was the return of Sharon. Nothing else at all. EE used to get big trailers all the time. Okay they were expensive but they must have helped because they looked good and mad the show seem special. At the moment it seems like an after thought.

Downton is likely to take a sizeable audience along with it over the two hours and pull them away from Eastenders. I think it will again come out as the top rated drama of Christmas Day given its overall performance from last year and showed no signs of fatigue in series number three. ITV seems to be trying to seize a portion from the soap loving audience because it could appeal to viewers seeking yesteryear escapism at Christmas. The Christmas Day ratings could be much closer with similar demographics for Coronation Street fighting for an audience against the housewife followers of Call the Midwife if these schedules are correct.

Friday 4th January on Channel 5:

8pm: Ice Road Truckers (New Series)
9pm: Celebrity Big Brother (New Series)
10pm: Celebrity Wedding Planner (New Series)
11pm: Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side (New Series)

Short launch show for CBB this series if it stays like that. Not sure if that's a positive or a negative for the ratings as generally it builds throughout. Possibly a negative, but should help CWP which seems to be the idea.

How on earth is that even going to work, even if they put them in straight away like in CBB8, 10 housemates in 4 ten minute parts? Presume this means they're not doing a launch night twist this time.

It didn't manage that last year did it.Overnights EastEnders won 9.9m VS 8.4m that was a sunday night and also both aired at 9:00pm. Downton was again 2hours long and this year EastEnders gets a better lead in not to mention BBC1's line up is much stronger across the night

Ahh just thought, BB rarely starts on a Friday unless preceeded by the previous finale, probably the first highlights?

They used to manage 12 in an hour no problem for the first few years of live launches on C4.

As for the provisional provisional Christmas schedules - nice line up for BBC1 on Christmas Eve - though nothing special at all on Christmas Day.

If EastEnders does well on Christmas Day I will be amazed. There is no momentum leading into Christmas. None. It's going to tank.

They didn't go in individually then and get interviewed for 5 minutes before hand.
