Outstanding ratings for Last Tango In Halifax. Competition increased the following week with I'm A Celebrity and will continue with football. Still think it'll do better than The Paradise for the rest of its run.

Always surprised that CBeebies actually rates higher than CBBC as the latter tends to grab all the headlines.

I imagine output deals still take place but they're not publicised. I know Channel 5 and BBC One got a few WB films a few years back despite ITV having an output deal with WB,

I guess ITV are expecting EE to be at 1930 like a normal Tuesday. If both those end up being the final schedules, ITV will do very poorly

In the days of children's programmes on BBC1/ITV a few years ago they'd be getting1/2m on a good day each. The beginning of the end came when Deal Or No Deal launched and took a shedload of viewers off both channels. When ITV ditched kid's programmes and put on drama repeats, ratings for the former CITV slot went up. Now ITV are doing well with new programming from 3-5pm. When afternoon children's programmes stop on BBC1 I expect they'll see an increase in ratings.

Daytime will be the new battleground in 2013.

BBC One daytime is pretty strong so not having kids shows between 15-17.15 will only boost its all day share. I think it would wise to expand on the shows that it'll inherit from BBC Two like Antique Roadtrip or Flog, I wouldn't be surprised to see a daytime chatshow or a cookery show.

Will be interesting to see how much of an effect that will have on ITV's 5pm slot, and notably The Chase. Once it finishes this year and returns next, it will take a while for it to achieve the figures it is getting now but it will be made much harder as ITV have a solid 1m all day, wheres the BBC effectively lose their audience at 3pm and it gradually builds back from 5.15pm. The BBC won't lose their audience at 3pm as they do now, so it will be interesting to see if ITV suffer from that. I expect they'll take quite a big hit.

I'm amazed at Last Tango's ratings. Cohen has really done well with Drama. He should do more of this than Crime Drama.

Daytime will be interesting to see in 2013. I bet any money, The BBC are praying for unemployment to go up in order for more viewers. Harsh thing to say, but wouldn't you want that to happen during a recession ?

Well the shows that BBC One are going to show are those that BBC Two already show.

Looks like ITV daytime gets back to normal on 2nd Jan, and they're going with a quiz show double.

4pm Tipping Point
5pm The Chase

What the hell has happened to EE?! 7.1m in November! And beaten by BOTH Emmerdale's. Didn't see that coming at all. I wonder if it'll be under 7m tonight. I reckon DA will beat it on Xmas Day now. Its not hitting the heights it should be in these cold months.

I think the ratings for drama are encouraging and hopefully lead to more commissions. But Danny Cohen's BBC One drama has had no appeal to me personally at all this year, there was no standout series, Call The Midwife Birdsong, Good Cop, Hunted all seemed to gain so much unwarrented attention. BBC Two provided more interesting scripts and good to see drama and viewers growing on that channel, Line of Duty was superbly done and reached 3 million.

Football was the competition for episode 1 of Last Tango. And Tuesday's game on ITV1 is Arsenal who have already qualified and wouldn't get many viewers anyhow. Really, LTIH should go back up in the overnights.

I hope EE wins just so you can repeat your infamous Boxing Day meltdown from a few years ago.

BARB IS BROKE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote:
“ Where have all these extra viewers come from??? The answer: people with BARB boxes apparently, all 5,100 of them determining the ratings! The system is a joke and these days we should be able to tell who is watching what with every TV set, rather than relying on 5,100 people to decide the ratings for us!!

EE will NEVER hit this high again! And I might be bitter but I really can't understand this massive increase.”

Still the best DS meltdown ever!

It depends on your definition of "does well" but I suspect it will do a lot better than a lot of people are saying.

I think "tank" is massively OTT.

Yes, having Downton Abbey so high profile on Christmas Day tends to distract attention - but on the whole, the holidays are looking like soap and a whole lot of filler for ITV.

The BBC schedules are looking rather good at the moment, I have to say. There'll be an inordinate amount of attention on the ratings for Call the Midwife and EastEnders on the main day, of course - but over the whole holidays, the line-up seems a bit more fleshed-out than last year. Could help them in January too if they emerge out of the holidays with Miranda, Mrs Brown's Boys, Ripper Street and Africa all up and running.

I can't remember the last new midweek drama this year that got 7m.

Or a very cold few months to bump ratings up.

I think BBC1 drama has been solid but new dramas didn't breakout apart from Call The Midwife. The dramas promoted during The Olympics hardly set the ratings alight. BBC1 need a few more big drama hits.

If it can get 7m for that episode in the finals it'll be an achievement.

Just been reminding myself of the Call The Midwife overnight ratings from earlier in the year, might as well post them too.

Episode 1 - 7.95m (27.5%)
Episode 2 - 8.64m (30.7%)
Episode 3 - 8.76m (29.3%)
Episode 4 - 9.02m (29.6%)
Episode 5 - 8.5m (28.2%)
Episode 6 - 9.24m (32.1%)

Does anyone know what the demo skews are for it?

Call The Midwife was mostly popular with females and older viewers I recall.

Hmm similar to Coronaton Street then. Going to be interesting how that plays out.

With CBB in January I expect the same sort of launch audience than previous years unless they do a huge campaign. I expect between 2.5m-2.6m. 2.8m at a stretch. I think if it keeps over 2m or at 2m throughout the run, then it will be a success, CBB10 got a 2.0m overnight and 2.25m official in September so it's very possible.

With BB, 1.7m+ would be a success as that would match BB13 and beat BB12 by 100k.

Hopefully the unusually early eye and start date release (CBB9's start date wasn't released till the 2nd December) mean they'll be promoting it earlier this year, they should do the billboards again, more potential viewers a few days after new years than there are in the summer, I can understand them not bothering for CBB10 but January's should be a must.

As far as I'm concerned any programme which gets above 7m in the finals can open the champagne in celebration. Unless, of course, they were previously getting 10 or 12m. In the last couple of years, I mean. Obviously, if Casualty or Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, which both used to get 12m or more many years ago, started to get 7m in the finals this would be a big acheivement for either given their recent underwhelming performances.

Long-winded way () of saying I agree with your comment about Last Tango.

Consolidated breakdown of episode 6 which had 11.41m (34.5%):

Children 4-15 - 365.5k (3.2%)
Adults 16-24 - 431k (3.8%)
Adults 25-34 - 707k (6.2%)
Adults 35-44 - 1.04m (9.1%)
Adults 45-54 - 2.09m (18.3%)
Adults 55-64 - 2.64m (23.1%)
Adults 65+ - 4.13m (36.2%)

And:

Males 4+ - 4.07m (35.7%)
Females 4+ - 7.33m (64.3%)

Compared to Wednesday's Coronation Street....

Children 4-15 - 632k (7.1%)
Adults 16-24 - 542k (6.1%)
Adults 25-34 - 807.5k (9.1%)
Adults 35-44 - 1.03m (11.7%)
Adults 45-54 - 1.69m (19.0%)
Adults 55-64 - 1.50m (16.9%)
Adults 65+ - 2.66m (30.0%)

And:

Males 4+ - 3.13m (35.4%)
Females 4+ - 5.72m (64.6%)

Male vs Female is about the same, but Corrie does not skew as old as Call the Midwife.
