It wasn't that long ago that that was the average it would pull in this time of year.

Is it me or are soap fans talking about EP's a bit like Roman Abramovich and Chelsea managers? Some sort of weird idea that EP's click their fingers and make soaps good or bad by magic based on their respective abilities. Nothing to do with the writers or directors or storyliners or cast or legions of other backroom staff... absolutely everything - good or bad - is the fault of the EP!

That's actually a fairly good analargy, and just like in football it seems when EPs move from one soap to another they often take quite a few of the "backroom staff" with them, while doing well at one doesn't mean you'll do well at another. Squad rotation is also fairly important, and just like in football fans of soaps will stick with them through a poor patch in the hope of a return to form and only drift away when things begin to go really wrong. It's fair to say EastEnders has been relegated this year.

90% of programmes on British Television would be opening the champagne and holding all-night parties if they had Eastenders ratings. It's not relegated. It's Arsenal.

Enough. Enough, enough, enough, enough.
Carry this discussion on in the Soap Threads! I get rebuked for posting suggested Christmas schedules, yet a dozen pages of Eastenders in Crisis is perfectly acceptable... |

This whole Eastenders discussion is pretty repetitve. The show has had one one awful rating, following underwhelming numbers for a long time. Its obvious the show is in a deep hole and is not getting out anytime soon but talk of it being axed is just ridiculous.
If EE were to be regularly beaten by Emmerdale then it would be near crisis levels but as it is, its only been beaten by Emmerdale on a handful of occasions which are mainly down to Emmerdale's 40th Anniversary and Im A Celeb denting all of BBC1 at the moment. |

I see BBC1 has already started trailing Rome's Lost Trailer, its opposition to the second half of next Sunday's X Factor final. I'm not sure this is going to rate any better than the Inspector George Gently repeat did in the same slot last year, 3.9m.
Supersized Earth, which was up against Corrie and I'm A Celebrity these last two Wednesdays has taken 3.8m. Would we say these two documentaries would appeal to the same audience? |

Talk of BBC axing Eastenders is ridiculous. The ratings have been bad but even if it gets 5-6million viewers a night, they wouldnt axe it because nothing else would get as many viewers as it. It would have to drop below 5million every day for them to even consider axing it.

They should have repeated "Lapland" in that slot. I am baffled they are not repeating it this Christmas considering a new series is in development.

You don't seem to complain when there are a dozen pages of X Factor in crisis posts?
I find the posts on the crises in both annoying, actually the 'X Factor heading for the axe' talk is worse as it's usually followed by people saying how biased the thread is, at least you don't get with the Eastenders posts. |

Yes. Which proves it's not doing well. But I feel that some are getting a bit to excited. Interesting to see were the show goes now.

The BBC are not going to axe a show that is still capable of pulling in audiences of 7-8m.
