Well I'm not wrong so far....

Nothing so far that wasn't in the original or in Panorama.

This is purely ratings driven. I know itv exists to make money, but still...

[edit: in fairness, there has been some new stuff re Broadmoor, and the second half has moved on a bit, but a lot of stuff on tonights programme was still covered by Panorama]

given that this will be the first fall series with the new cast, I would have been surprised if this was the final season for CSI.

CSI NY on the other hand, I would not have been surprised if this is its final series, however this has not been CBS strongest season, so it may yet survive for 2013/13, I guess that depends on how strong the 2nd NCIS spin-off is. (shouldn't that really be the 3rd JAG spin-off)

I wonder if there maybe a toss up between CSI NY and The Mentalist, its ratings really are not any better.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that we will lose one of those two at the end of the season. Both let down by god awful timeslots and next to no support from CBS.

It'll probably be CSI: NY that goes as it's older.

And Breakaway is a repeat of series one, shown earlier in the year.

Haha! I didn't know that. I just assumed it was Series 2.

overnights are delayed

they're probably trying to verify the 12m viewers who wanted to engage with Nadine Dorries

Too much crime drama, should generally rate well but all very safe.

Very low rating night away from ITV1.

Once again, I'm annoyed at BBC One's constant crave for Crime Drama. Its dull, familiar and I won't be watching. I just wish these two networks will go for something different instead. Its partly why ratings and audience share is going down year on year. Lack of originality and Ben Stephenson & Danny Cohen just blink and move on.

I can now see why you'd like C4 to get rid of DOND, Dan.

Nice try but my post was objective and well thought through. Why not go back and have another read, I think I was making a sound argument. Cheap shot one-liners are not really my style.

Bad night for C5 last night but hardly a typical one and it was also a cheap night. I'm glad they just stuck on a film repeat as 4% was respectable enough and there was no audience to chase last night, see figs for normally reliable shows like Crimewatch and Grand Designs.

I'd be more concerned about two major drama flops in a row for C4. A lot of money spent and nothing to show for it, unless exciting Guardian columnists is a greater ambition than ratings. Everyday deservedly tanking opposite the far superior Hatfields on Thursday, and now Secret State falling to levels beaten on a near daily basis by drama repeats on ITV3.

I'm sorry but it was a laughably unsound argument. DOND is obviously past its peak but it still has a loyal and solid audience of anything up to 1.5m a night. If C4 happen to have a bad primetime ratings then it can often be their most-watched show of the day. It would be foolish to get rid of it.

This week BBC1 have seven drama series on and not one of them is a crime drama.

Edit: no, eight. I was forgetting Doctors. Eight dramas, none of them are crime dramas although three of them are medical dramas.

The trajectory it's on suggests that won't be the case much longer. How its audience can be described as "loyal" and "solid" when it's still declining and if anything the rate of decline is getting bigger is beyond me, and that's before C4 comes under real pressure from a new-look BBC One daytime. It's actually now very rare for it to top the day on C4 and when that does happen it's a sign something went horribly wrong for C4 in prime.

It's had a very good run and if I was a C4 programmer I would be looking at those miserable ratings for Weakest Link that limped on for too long and not fancying taking Deal on a similar path. Better to call time on it now whilst the ratings are still respectable and I'm sure Noel probably feels the same.

The gameshow genre is more competitive than ever on TV just now and so it's only going to get harder to sustain interest in the oldest most exposed formats on offer. Arguably Countdown is more vulnerable following recent scheduling changes that signalled it has fallen out of favour somewhat with bosses, after they themselves ruined its ratings potential by appointing an unsuitable presenter. But really it's becoming harder to make a case for either of these shows to continue much longer on a network that's supposed to innovate and provide an alternative, and the raft of new commissions they've made for daytime won't have to be anything too special to prove a more compelling proposition for viewers.

Getting rid of DOND would be like ITV getting rid of X Factor in that, whilst it is rating is falling, it is still a high rating, relatively speaking for C4. It's got a fair amount of life left.

Don't think these have been posted, but the ratings for Crime Stories so far this week:

Monday: 968k (13.1%)
Tuesday: 928k (12.9%)
Wednesday: 907k (13.1%)

Daybreak yesterday had 719k (17.6%).

Looking at the consolidated's, this new sitcom for BBC Three "Some Girls" had 491k (2.3%) for it's first episode and 480k (2.2%) for it's second episode. So it's not doing anywhere near as well as Cuckoo and Bad Education which preceded it.

Highest official figure of all-time for The Chase (civilian version) was on 13th November with 3.41m (21.5%).
