I find it strange how there's so much emphasis on how X Factor could get viewers back, which seems unlikely, and so little thought given to how ITV could replace it in the long-term. A mere rebranding of X Factor which has been suggested a few times would be uninspired compared to something genuinely fresh and of a big scale.”

I said earlier today the big problem is ITV have no obvious replacement lined up. They should've used the likes of Britain's Got Talent, The X Factor and Dancing On Ice to try and boost new formats but they didn't really take advantage of the viewers they pulled in.

I think Coronation Street will see a slide before long - Phil Collinson has been one of the best executive producers in a long while and has managed to produce some strong storylines to keep the show going but will be leaving in the new year. Going by the new executive's approach to Emmerdale, Coronation Street could be more hit or miss under his reign.
Soaps always ebb and flow. I wouldn't be surprised if EastEnders approaches Christmas 2013 as number one soap and Coronation Street is scrabbling for momentum.
