4.2million for a drama with big names in the cast is quite a low rating against such weak opposition. Im surprised it didnt get over 5million like the BBC dramas in the last week.

With The Town losing viewers across the broadcast this means that when it faces Last Tango In Halifax it could get a very low rating.

5m is where successful weekday dramas should be at in overnights alone in my view.

Jenny Cummins is ITV's propaganda specialist. Her figures will always include +1.

Why do you think for the last 6 months, viewers have stopped watching new Itv drama? Nothing new has rated particularly well for them. Its almost as if viewers who used to watch their drama in the months prior were really fed up with them and decided not to bother with the new batch of dramas anymore. It must be extremely frustrating for bosses at the channel that they invest a lot of money and time into these dramas, only for them to not rate well from the start. Same with Channel4, their new drama is only getting 700k

Speaking as someone who did watch it, this doesn't really surprise me.
The characters were very insular & unsympathetic and the narrative just seemed to create more questions without really answering any of them.

I'm intrigued by it though.

Has the SCD special been recorded yet? If not, then it shouldn't be an issue - just less padding. If it has, then some of Brucie's gags might need cutting.

The general consensus view seemed to be that 75 minutes was the required slot for the number of contestants, so at an originally billed 1h25, it looked padded anyway. Maybe it was never going to be 1h25, that was just to cause panic in itv ranks...

As for BBC1 running late, it happened once, when they got the running lengths of DW and EE wrong and Wallace & Gromit started a whopping 7 minutes late. The news after The Royle Family and Catherine Tate (?) though started pretty much on time so they pulled it back.

Every year since BBC1 has run like clockwork to my recollection, and I doubt Pizzatheaction even bothers checking the batteries in the Ratings Thread stopwatches any more...

It was recorded Monday night - so just before the schedules were finalised.

So when EE drops below 8 million it's a ''rating crisis'' but when Corrie does apparently no-one notices

Probably because Corrie didn't drop below 8 million last night. It had 8.74 million last night on ITV1, with a further 193,000 on ITV1+1.

That's cos Mike posts the SD rating + HD rating, not the +1 rating - which means: 7721 + 666 = 8.39m (full slot average).

The tape-checked figures are: 8.74m (38.8%) , +1: 193k (0.8%)

So abit different to the EE situation.

The Town was pretty much bang on where I expected it to be, given how other ITV dramas have faired this autumn/winter. It was OK actually. I think it will dip next week though.

Not just there, though.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/ch...mas-clash.html

That was in YESTERDAY'S Daily Telegraph, so the Star was simply following the Telegraph's story. Pretty clear, IMO, that BBC sources HAVE claimed that ITV were up to dirty tricks. That does not mean, of course, that the BBC should automatically be believed, but it is not a case of a tabloid paper making up BBC quotes either.

this post makes me think that maybe this isn't actually anti ITV, but anti everything. It's a bit depressing seeing you guys tear each other apart over who's anti this or anti that

sometime programme/channel post poor figures, other times they don't

I don't understand the EE crisis posts that are appearing lately, the programme's figures look fine to me (especially in consideration to what may be broadcast against it)

Presumably they wanted Coronation Street to start at 7.45 and not let Call the Midwife get the head start. However, they really have been left with egg on their faces. That 75 minute CTM really did screw them over and left them floundering.

It's a good learning for the BBC for next year - make your most popular programmes funny lengths and the opposition will be get themselves in a terrible tangle.

That's just it. A repeat of an old show shouldn't be beating a show that has gotten it's first airing.

CBBC ratings from yesterday:

16:00 - Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated: 370k (3.8%)
16:30 - Pet School: 289k (2.5%)
17:00 - The Story of Tracy Beaker: 410k (3.1%)
17:15 - Naomi's Nightmares of Nature: 337k (2.2%)
17:45 - Operation Ouch: 337k (1.9%)
18:15 - Rocket's Island: 251k (1.3%)

Rocket's Island is a new drama but then again the likes of Wolfblood started with that rating so it'll be interesting how it timeshifts. Still don't see the popularity with old episodes of Tracy Beaker, repeats shouldn't really be outrating newer original programming.

*cough* Mrs Brown's Boys *cough*

third showing had higher ratings than some new Beeb sitcoms

Talk about lies, damn lies and statistics - 7.72 suddenly becomes 8.74 when posted by someone else.Surely the true audience should include all the HDs, +1s etc

not sure if you're having a go at me or not

7.72m is purely for ITV1
666m is purely for ITV1 HD

as I've learnt overtime on this thread, the overnights my company gets are for the total broadcast slot (7.30-9pm for Coronation Street)

however the ratings would change somewhat when taking out the commercial break after programme has ended, hence the 'tape checked' figure be 8.74m

I don't include +1 figures, because on the one hand you have the possibility of double counting (sad as it may seem some people do rewatch) and on the other hand BBC don't have +1 channels (so EE and Corrie figures could never be like for like)

that is of course MY preference

edit: changed reference from Emmerdale to Coronation Street (as that was what was being discussed)

Mike has pointed out a million times that he gets the ITV1 + Hd ratings seperately and that they are for the full slot.

You're not exactly a stranger to the thread. It's your own fault if you don't pay enough attention.

With children's television, a new generation of viewers turns up every couple of years.

Also, this year the three Tracy Beaker novels have been re-released as The Tracy Beaker Trilogy.so that must increase interest in the TV series (as, possibly, may Dani Harmer's participation in Strictly),
