I am only just catching up on Hollyoaks as you know, and only just watched Stug get together yesterday which left me feeling somewhat completely let down. Reason being, I thought that Stug was a long standing loving relationship, that they had been lovingly together for some time, that Doug was gay for a while. But from what I can see, Stug happened almost the very moment that Doug came out, his being gay was almost like it was spurned on by jealously alone and their love was not a big instant thing, it was a trick of their minds! How anyone can love Stug is now, completely beyond me!

I had a dream about the airport stuff last night. Doug wasn't there but Ste told Cheryl they'd had an argument but were still leaving then Ste saw Leah drop something & it was the cross necklace. He picked it up and rushed off and Cheryl shouted something about it ending prematurely The next thing they were still in the airport Ste, Cheryl & the kids and now Brendan who put his arms round Ste's waist and picked up some bags & said "let's get outta here" then they all started walking off together like a little family .

Have you read it hollie?

It's pretty frustrating, wonderfully written, as always, but it left me feeling sad.

Morning! Chunk, this is exactly what was wrong with it. Just a terribly badly-told story. I couldn't believe I was watching something so silly. Doug went gay. Doug "had always" been gay. Doug was "in love" with Ste. Ste had liked him "for ages" (except he hadn't). You can see now why it was just impossible to buy into Ste and Doug, from the start.

Anyway ...

Happy Birthday hollie!

What? He was trying really hard, bless him, he really has been trying over the last two episodes (bar that line about being lucky - though I'm more inclined to put that down to PJs delivery, it could have been slightly softer and more "I'm lucky you were lucky" than a punishment).

My main sense of last night was: Doug has been trying hard but really not getting what Ste needs, Brendan has been trying not to try and getting him perfectly.

But yeah I totally agree with Iclabon, if Brendan leaves now and doesn't come back (which we know wont happen touch wood) I sitll need this to be the end of Stug, they were built on Brendan - their first kiss even ended on Brendan, its just taken Ste a while to realise that However I will feel sorry for Doug when this all blows up.

But thats not what I meant by feeling sorry for Stug fans - I don't know what its like to ship for a couple with a dodgy ex and totally believe in them, then come to the dawning realisation that their not end game, but it cant bee very nice for them... even if they are delusional

Made me giggle, I was vaguely watching back then and I still remember being totally confused over whether Stug were supposed to be a storyline or a plot device - it was kinda like the writers themselves didnt know. Especially when they gave Brendan's realisation the ending image of their first kiss, not the first kiss itself. Though sometimes I have this horrible nigging feeling some of the writers are anti-Stendan

But anyway thats too a depressing thought for a new chapter day like today - thank God for Paetra Smallacombe

Well it depends on how you see it, you can see Doug not telling Ste that they had a row and that's why he was outside to see/save Leah as not putting any more stress on him.

Or you can see it as a desperate ploy to keep Ste with him.

Oh my god you have woken up, look at our matching rings, we are married and that is all you need to know.

Guess which way I see it.

Oh wow Chunk, is that what you thought?!

Oh sweetie

But no, Ste and Doug hardly knew each other, hadn't even been in the same scene before, and Doug had been straight with Lynsey as good as about to start wearing his cardies like a girl would her bf's letterman jacket, only like 8 months ago. You must be new to the show as a whole.

Yeah deffinate desperate ploy, but it would be odd if he said "actually you kinda said you didnt wanna be married to me anymore but never mind hey?" I think that could only come across as "Doug doesnt actually love Ste" and I dont think thats what the writers are trying to tell - he does love Ste he's just got major issues with it! (and not anywhere in the realm of how much Brendan loves Ste - but that really is once in a lifetime love.)

And anyway I think that whole thing was a very small part of the rest of the episode

I got the impression that the people in charge of the show actually thought they were telling a serious, believable storyline about two people falling instantaneously gay/in love. Which just made it even sillier. But yep, let's all move along swiftly ...

I also thought Doug was pretty sneaky last night btw. But then I do just think he is a sneaky person who will do literally anything to keep Ste. I know we haven't seen it, but I'm damn sure he's hidden that cross. And it is pretty dishonest not to admit to Ste that he was outside because they'd had a disagreement, and to stop Cheryl telling him the truth as well. But I never claim to be impartial where Doug is concerned.

And don't forget the symbol of the story's 'realism'

Let's face it, Doug nipped out to buy supplies for the cellar he will be keeping Ste in.

Nice food, a futon, shackles and a ball gag.

Look, cyrilandshirley, we all know that the idea of sneaky Doug and Brendan does things to you. Don't lie.
