Doug is totally trying to save his own skin here. When he mentioned the marriage and Ste looked confused/horrified, he seemed scared because he was thinking Ste might of remembered that they weren't actually together anymore at the point of the crash. Also, not telling Ste what has happened to other people and about the crash isn't nice, it's just going to leave Ste confused for longer. He deserves to know and Doug isn't telling him for his own selfish reasons.

And yeah, he has definitely taken the cross. I think that's what he's meant to tell Ste in Friday's E4 but he won't. Ste will think Brendan doesn't care.

I think Doug's actions are understandable, but wrong.

This Friday E4 Doug contemplates coming clean about his campaign against Brendan as Ste returns home from hospital

Mon 26 E4 Doug manages to reconcile his relationship with Ste, but worries Brendan might not keep his promise.

I think Doug must tell Ste the truth in the end and Ste forgives him as long as he doesn't try it again.

Hmm. The first one makes it sound as if he considers it but decides against it. Does the second one sound as if he does tell him? I can't decide. Seems Doug knows about Brendan's bargain with God - does Ste know? I'm thinking not.

I think Brendan will tell Doug that he isn't going to go near Ste anymore for his own good whilst Ste will be thinking it's because he doesn't care and maybe that will come out at the airport, along with Doug hiding the cross?

That could be why Ste looks angry on the bridge too, because Brendan made Ste think he didn't care.

I really wish they left the Stug thing as a friendship rather than a romance. I think they could have made that friendship a bigger obstacle to Stendan than the romance has been. Doug could have helped Ste really gain in self confidence and stand on his own. Doug could have still hated Brendan and been a valid foe because of his influence on Ste. Most importantly Ste would have a friend, the boy needs a friend.

That said, I was hopeful at first that the Stug romance would be a believable obstacle on the path to an eventual Stendan reunion. They had a moment or two that I thought were kind of cute but overall never really worked for me whereas their friendship was awesome.

I'm kind of sad for how it all turned out for Doug and Ste. I am sad for how many people on the Stendan side now pretty much hate Doug and many people on the Stug side hate Ste. They could have been epic friends. I mourn that friendship, brief as it was.

If he's explaining about the recording, then he must say that it was from before he'd given up going after Brendan when Ste had forgiven him and they'd gotten married. That he wasn't going to do anything with it . I wonder about the details though, if he'll say it was a confession about Danny.

Many people who are on neither side also hate Doug.
