See, I disagree with this theory they changed their minds because the friendship was popular. The friendship was always to sucker us in, in my view. They wanted to avoid another Noah. So they developed this really believable lovely friendship to soften everyone up and go aww, aren't they good together, and then have them fall in lurve, and we'd all go awww again. And instead, everyone just went FFS, they just wrecked a great friendship. Idiots.

I wondered whether this 'promise' actually has nothing to do with Brendan's church promise, and perhaps Doug (because he is an annoying little cling ball) tells Brendan he'll go to the police about the Danny thing unless Brendan stays away from Ste... although are we supposed to assume the recording got destroyed?

Anyhoo... last nights episode was a delight. I really couldn't believe how OBVIOUS the writers were making it that Ste wanted Brendan and not Doug to be there with him. Hope we're in for a few more of those little Stendan surprises before Brendan buggers off to Dublin.

The E4 site has "Doug and Ste manage to reconcile but will Brendan keep to his pact and stay away from Ste?" so it does seem to be referring to his deal with God rather than Doug having another go at blackmailing him.

It's the OMG addiction. Show nothing from Doug. Show nothing from Ste. Have Ally as a decoy (and it worked). Then ... BAM, big reveal that Doug's gay and they're in love, and who cares if it means nothing actually makes any sense any more?

It actually gives me some hope for humanity that half the audience saw through it and just switched off.

Anyway, that's all in the past now. The future is bright. The future is Stendan and storylines that might actually make a peck of sense.
