Following Jan's thread on the Christmas Special News - and seeing that quite a few aren't so keen on the Christmas Special and the fact we usually get people on it who've never been on the actual show, would you like it to continue, and what would you like to see from it?

No to current celebrities taking part - they've always looked so frazzled doing the Xmas special on top of everything else.

Yes to a fresh group of celebrities who have never taken part on the show before.

Big YES to bringing back pros such as Matthew, Ian, Katya and Lilia just for a one-off.

So basically, carry on with the format they've been using the past couple of years

Oh and TQ.....Mwah! X

p.s. - Never ever invite Biggins on for the Xmas special. EVER.

Not sure why they changed their format from getting past contestants to getting new ones.

Perhaps it's too much to ask the current quarter-finalists to also do a Christmas Special with past celebs, but it might work if the current contestants DON'T participate in the Christmas Special, and they just get previous celebs on the show. I enjoyed seeing Colin Jackson, Derren Gough (though I don't really like his dancing generally) and Zoe Ball doing the Christmas Special. So I would like past contestants coming back again, like Kara, Chelsee, Ricky, Jodie, etc..

If they can get Katya back to do a Christmas Special, I am sure they will be able to get past pros back to partner those celebs.

As I said on the other thread I found it far more enjoyable when I got the chance to see old favourites again rather than random one off celebrity and pro pairings that I have no real interest in.

I'm not asking the BBC to go back to the bygone days and of Natasha Kaplinski or Jill Halfpenny. I think inviting the better celebrities from 2-3 series back would be appropriate.

Yes, but spend some serious money, arrange it ages ahead and try to get some big celebs involved. People we'd really like to see in the competition if they could spare the time.

This is what I would like as well - and although not Katya's greatest fan, I'd love to see her paired with Gavin Henson on the Christmas Special this year - I loved it when he said she was 'a headache in heels'! He would spark my interest in the CS again!

that would be brilliant but in reality, the ones we want to see are always busy! Is a shame!

I must think of who I'd love to see in a Christmas Special - will think!

I think that would be good - then people are likely to remember them having been on the show.

hiya darling MWAHs back xxxxxxxxxx writing to you shortly!

Matt is a really busy boy currently - and I doubt he would come back at the moment but you never know in the future!

Talking of Biggins, Matt was in Scotland with him recently and said he was fab - really was just himself and a lovely bloke!

Who would you like to see on it, honey? xxx

The Christmas Special has to stay.

Oh, I would LOVE to see Lilia come back to Strictly but I doubt it would ever happen. Of all the pro dancers who were axed, it seemed like she took it with the greatest amount of ill feeling.

I assumed it was to avoid the awkwardness of bringing back celebrities whose original pro partners were no longer on the show. But given that the pro dancers have been fairly constant over the past 3 years I don't see any harm in bringing the old format back... unless they're planning another mass cull.

I want the Xmas special to stay. I don't really want the current celebs involved I always thought that was silly. I would like previous celebs & I don't think it matters if they dance with another pro. Geth danced with Flavia when he did the Xmas show. Perhaps a mixture of old celebs & ones that can't commit to a full show.

I'd like the Christmas Special to feature more pro dances. In fact, I'd prefer it if they forgot the celebs and the competition altogether and just had a pro spectacular.

oh yes I like that idea

I wouldn't mind seeing past celebs again either

I don't like the "grab random z list celebs and throw it together approach" that seems to be the current approach

OK here's a twist on the old-celebs idea - ONLY invite back those who've made the semis upwards, but NEVER invite back past winners of the show. That way they've all still got something to compete for and it won't be too predictable either!

I personally would love a dancefloor fight between Colin Jackson, Gethin Jones (i think he danced with Flavia on tour when Camilla didn't do it so maybe not a prob), Rachel Stevens, Pamela Stephenson, Matt Baker, Ricky Whittle and Chelsee Healey

Count me in for the CS to stay and with previous contestants although, I do like trying to guess which new ones are trying out for a shot at the main series
Perhaps a mix would be better - for the previous contestants it would have to be a new dance though.
How long is the training for it?

I like the sound of this idea, I hope the producers take notice of you.

Ooh I quite like that idea.

I also think a sort of all stars would be nice, where say the top three of numerous series compete with each other. Yes to more pro dances though.

You never know, if it happens I will remember that you said it first and that it was your idea.

In an ideal world? The way it used to be. I liked the mish-mash of old contestants versus current ones. I don't care if they were frazzled by that stage, because they still danced better than the newbies they've drafted in the last couple of years.

Plus, when it's a couple from the current series that you've just spent 3 months watching get better and better, it's something to look forward to on Xmas day when you're stuffed and tired and want half a second to sit on your arse and forget about the washing up. When it's some random Z-lister that you don't know or care about and haven't spent time getting to know them on Strictly, it's a complete let-down. Not to mention, they're pretty much across-the-board terrible because they haven't spent 3 months being trained.

i never see the christmas special, and its one of those shows that just doesn't feel right on catch up, so i don't much care what happens to it.

I agree with this.
