EE 4G prices not as bad as portrayed
I signed up yesterday to the SIM only plan with EE of £31 for 3GB data. This is exactly the same as I have been paying Orange for 2GB (albeit 12 month contract instead of rolling 30 days, but I have no intention of changing for a year).
I *know* I can get cheaper data (indeed, I have a £15 Three SIM in my iPad that gives me 15GB) but I happen to like Orange (for coverage plus Orange Wednesdays) but I don't think it's fair to say they are price gouging. |

£46 a month with EE gets me 3 gigs of data a month on 4G whereas £46 with O2 currently gets me 500mb 3G.
iPhone 5 64 gig model was the phone. |

I think the pricing is awful and won't be using the service.

People slating the EE 4g prices (I work for 'em) always leave out the value of the unlimited calls and texts, and focus only on the data allowance, as if that's all you were getting. Now, I'm a good example of someone who doesn't do much calling, internet is my main activity on my phone. But,believe it or not, there are people who also like/need to talk a lot. Their perception of value may therefore be different.

SIM only with Three £25 a month gets me unlimited data and from l hear data speeds are not that great on EE and comparable to Three's 3G/HSPA.
Plus when l get my next phone (currently have an Galaxy S2) it will support DC-HSPA+ which Three have been rolling out. So will probably end up with similar data speeds once EE have ramped up there service. |

I will be holding off from 4G for some time as yet, until the Technology becomes more pervasive then it won't benefit me that much. I have Three and they are in the midst of the DC-HSPA upgrades to their network, which more than does me for fast internet which is more than comparable to the current 4G offering from EE. That said Vodafone offer me consisent albeit only H+ speeds but am not too worried about that. I would rather stick with what works and offers me capacity to surf the web, which is more than can be said of the original Orange work its still crap even with all the supposed upgrades that is happening on the integrated network...... |

Compared to what I pay T-Mobile, £21 per month for unlimited everything, I'd say EE's tariff's are pretty pants.
And this is someone who talks (I was on the phone for 2 hours the other night), texts and uses the internet a lot. I might not be getting 4G but 3G is perfect enough for me. |

T-Mobile is the exact same coverage and do unlimited data/texts & 2000mins for £21pm on a 12 month contract. The whole point of a sim only is to pay less than you would with a 24 month contract and subsidised phone. Right now i could get the S3 on Three's one plan for £28pm inc vat for 24 months with a free phone. |

I can't agree with you, unlimited minutes is pretty pointless when you put it in perspective. The Way people are using their mobiles are no longer just for calling and texting, we consume data, and therefore, for what we pay we need to have the means to continue to do so, so nope, I don't believe EE offers good value to be honest. The game has changed and so operators need to have a bias towards data, There is no point in having fast speeds if we can hardly get the most out of what we are paying due to limited data allowances. |

Not sure where you see 500mb. Although still less, it's actually 2GB.
I dont know about new contracts and new data allowances. |

What's the point in having a super fast 4G phone and a 3GB data limit - I think it's pointless.
Why not a 50GB or more data limit. I would use 3GB on 4G in a few days watching streaming services whatnot. |

I used 32GB last month on my phone in total. Some was streaming some was tethering. And the thing is that at the 3G speed i was getting everything worked well. Yes youtube videos did take a bit of time to buffer etc... but the streams were HD, tethering worked well.

Are you with Three one plan? Do you suffer from throttlling between 3pm and 12am?

I'm with Three and have never noticibly been throttled. I quite happily stream 1080p YouTube videos while a number of devices are connected to my phone. Always get faster speeds on Three than on my home broadband which is 3mbps.

But they only stop people who are doing things against the T&C if you start doing heavy stuff. e.g torrents/tethering on non compatible plans etc... So if you're on pay as you go and using it against T&C for tethering etc... then thats why you're being throttled. At least they're not like Giff Gaff where they just cut you off after using 1GB within the first hour. |

The prices are as bad as portrayed. You're missing the point of 4G. It's not about phone calls or text messages. The whole crux of ALL of EE's marketing for this product is about speed of data, so if it's all about data, the ability to make phone calls and texts is secondary. Anyone that is being addressed by the marketing of 4GEE is interested first and foremost in data, and in that respect, there are much cheaper options available.
