I went to shop there the other day, and the prices were not at all cheap - in fact, I left the store and went to Waitrose and got more for my money!

i have not been in Tescos for months, but was talking to a customer at work a couple of days back and they said we was cheaper than Tesco on many things and our own products quality was better.

Always nice to hear I suppose.

I find Tesco has good bargains if you shop around in store.

Expensive over all, yes. I've found they're the worst for those, for example, 2 for £3 'deals' when individually the product is usually £1.

And the stores and staff are really off putting.

Yes it can be more expensive than Asda for some things. In fact I think it's overall a bit more expensive than Asda.

Yes it is, however I prefer Tesco own brand quality to Asda own brand quality.

There some good deals to be had sometimes, but you have to look for them.

It's generally OK, but there are some huge markups on certain items!

there was a couple of years gap between doing 'big shops' at tesco as am no longer based in the uk, but the prices had gone up something silly!

i used the store because it was cheap and cheerful but it seems that with domination came massive price hikes.

it has gone from begin a cheap shop (a la ASDA) to a standard supermarket with some silly prices

oh please... Waitrose is as dear as they come... a supermarket for yummy mummies whose well-paid hubbies are footing the bill.

this is no longer true with Waitrose, their essentials range is priced at the Tesco market. also, i am not a yummy mummy and nobody foots my bill as i contribute my fair share to the household.

I suppose it could be cheap if you buy carefully.

I live right next to a huge one which I end up going to most days to get odds and ends like coffee salad and milk so it is probably eating my money but I am trying to keep track of how much I spend.

I usually just shop at the nearest shop. At one stage that was Iceland. I would like to live near a Sainsburys.

Before I moved house I had no choice but to shop in Tescos and they are very expensive compared to the other big supermarkets. Their 'deals' are misleading and they put their prices up by ridiculous amounts in a very short space of time. The quality of their meat and fresh veg was terrible too.

I shop at Waitrose now and my food bill is much lower.

I don't shop there because it annoys me the way so many people incorrectly call it "Tescos".

I compare prices quite often with Tesco, morrisons, sainsburys and waitrose. Tesco is cheaper for it's own value products, Waitrose matches tesco for branded products. Morrisons cheapest for reduced price produsts at 8.30pm. Sainsburys seems more expensive than all of them.

Serioulsy, this is not the case anymore! I used to think that.

Also, my local waitrose do really good reduced items, up to 80% off at times, whereas Tescos reduced items are a joke - they barely take off 15% for food going out of date on that day! Also, Waitrose doesn't price hike their produce like Tescos - I could buy the same item at 50p one day and the next it 70p! Very off putting indeed.

Waitrose price match with tesco so one of your points there doesn't seem correct.

They price match on a selection of branded products, not every product!

I know but if they were cheaper on the ones they don't price match on I have a feeling they would be shouting it from the rooftops. Which means they are dearer for some things.

Really all shops are cheaper on some and dearer on others, can't beat the basics or value products for really cheap shopping waitrose doesn't do well against those.

waitrose sell sausages for 99p. I agree that some of their items are not as cheap as tesco, but they are better quality than tesco.
I really dont like tesco at all....as soon as i enter their stores i geel anxious and want to leave as quickly as possible!

Well that's just you not a general comment on pricing. Sorry you have some sort of problem like that I used to have panic attacks too so no how that feels. Relaxation breathing helps in my case.

BTW some of us have to shop for price quality is a bonus we can't afford.
