Best Source for HDR Handset

Hi,

Some of the buttons on my HDR Handset are not working very well anymore.

Anyone know the best / cheapest place to buy a new replacement?

Try eBay! They have cloned remotes that don't look exactly like the original but do the job and have all the right buttons. Quite cheap as far as I can remember.

£14.50 (inclusive of VAT and delivery) from
http://www.remotes4u.co.uk/HUMAX-Rem...R&modelNumber=

Have used 'remotes4u' quite a few times and have found them very reliable. Note; the HDR remote they sell is a copy of the original.

PS - Have found that they also sell an original Humax remote for £24.95 all inclusive.

A few of the buttons on mine stopped working after a year, I contacted Humax who sent me out a new one.

Eventually I got round to taking the old one apart and gave the contacts a clean, it's been working perfectly (and silently) ever since.

For anyone considering taking remote apart, there is a previous post that describes process. Look at entry number 33 in the following post:

Make sure if you buy a genuine one, it is RM F01 because some are F04 which isn't for the FOXSATHDR

OK thanks.

Might be worth trying to take it apart as I'm sure its a dirt issue now.

Originally the Volume button stopped working properly.

After a few weeks it was back to normal.

Now its the OK button. Long hard presses and moving your finger around on the button is the only way to get a response. Been like that for a few weeks.

However, in the last 48 hours are periods where it now works again with the slightest touch.

As ll the other buttons work instantly, it can't be batteries so either has to be remote or the sat box. I too suspect dirt or failing that some kind of slow intermittent failure.

It wasn't really a dirt issue on mine, I gave the circuit board and the back of the buttons a quick rub with alcohol and put it back together and it was better but not that responsive.
So I took it apart again and gave the contacts on the back of the buttons a really good clean with a few cotton buds and alcohol and that sorted it. Better than new.

Removing the smoked plastic film from the IR window on the box makes a huge difference as well, although I only found out about that after I'd had it a few years.

Take the opportunity to replace it with a half decent multi-device universal remote. The HDR remote has the worst, hit and missiest action keys that I have ever used.

I'm going to upgrade the IR diode whilst I'm in it. Might as well!

I gave the circuit board a thorough clean yesterday with contact cleaner.

The dirt seemed to be black deposits from the rubber key mat rather than any external dirt or contact oxidation.

I'm also going to clean the back to the key pad buttons now I've seen your suggestion - thanks.

Only downside to opening it, is the plastic is now a bit nibbled on one side as getting the 1st snap lug to open wasn't easy. However, no-ones going to notice it. Wouldn't like to open it again in a hurry though as I reckon its a fine line between opening it and breaking it. Its ok once you have one or two lugs open but the 1st one is very dodgy!
