Replacing elderly laptop with tablet?
Youtoo?
23-11-2012
Hi, new to this forum so apologies if this has been covered before.

We have two laptops and one is getting very creaky. I work from the newer one but husband mainly browses the net and plays videos on Youtube on the older one. I was considering replacing the elder of the two laptops with a tablet, for portability, and am looking for something with 10" screen, for best viewing comfort. I'd be looking to play apps such as Angry Birds and definitely want IPlayer on it, then I can watch it when husband's out at work and not have to lug a great big laptop around. Also would want to play films and transfer files for viewing on holiday (keep the nipper entertained).

I'm not too bothered about paying £300 plus as it would still be below the price of a new laptop, so what would you recommend?

So far I've seen threads on Nexus 10, Samsung and IPad. What's best for capacity, speed and playing movies & IPlayer?

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Try the Asus Transformer range. I have the Asus TF101 and is superb although a little long in the tooth now, try the TF201 or 300. They both have detachable keyboards that also contain a second battery. See below

+1 for the transformer range if you have to go for 10" screen.

I have a tf101 but I also have a nexus 7 ..... And its the nexus I reach for more often for casual browsing and gaming at home these days...

The transformer is better for train journeys etc

The speed of downloads depends on your broadband connection and provider. I don't have access to a lappy, so my only real access is from my tablet and my phone.

The big rivals in the tablet market is the iPad mini or the Google nexus 7. Price wise Google nexus is around £190 ish and the iPad/iPad mini is like £390 give or take.

I suggest read some reviews on some of the tech sites and YouTube videos.
