Saw a clip of the Hillsborough charity single He aint heavy, he's my brother, this morning. For some reason that song always did tug at my emotional side, but after watching a clip this morning and hearing Rebecca,Robbie and the brilliant Holly Johnson singing it, I nearly went again
As long as they make it readily available as a cd single as well, it should sell by the bucket load.
Ironic that there had been talk of Gary Barlow helping do the X Factor song, and his mucker Robbie will help keep it off the top stop at Christmas

X Factor are not going for the number 1 this year because there are always plans to foil it, and if they fail to get it, it's a big issue.

That seems sensible. I watched the BBC report about the song and have decided I will buy it. I think The Hollies are my favourite group ever. Love their songs and in this instance, although it isn't them singing, it is in a very good cause.

These campaigns to make sure the X-Factor winner doesn't get top spot at Christmas are, in my opinion, ridiculous. The first time when RATM won the Xmas race, it was against Joe McElderry who had done nothing to warrant such derision from some Internet users. He is still singing and doing very well, thank you very much!

Is it compensation for the families or other costs?

In your opinion! He has just been in a one-off version of The Who's Tommy which was performed at the Prince Edward theatre in the West End to great acclaim! He is going away on a skiing holiday at Christmas with his family and friends!

Have you ever appeared in panto? It is a very difficult genre to perform and I admire those who do it.

All proceeds from the single sales will be going towards the Hillsborough Families legal costs in their fight for justice.

The other year (or it might've been last year, I forget) a few people I knew were behind a campaign to get 4'33 to #1 in aid of a depression awareness charity, which I thought was really admirable.

But outside of that, I agree that post-RATM campaign these Christmas #1 campaigns we get every year have gotten a bit tiresome now, although anything that stops the Cowell Money Machine from getting Christmas #1 is fine by me.

According to local radio this morning, HMV, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrison's have all confirmed they will be stocking the single in their stores.

The campaign was against the constant X-Factor monopoly of the Christmas No. 1. It was never against any particular individual. We don't care if Joe is still singing or not, or how well he is doing. It had nothing to do with liking or disliking a particular singer.

I actually know that but it was poor Joe who got caught up in it. I understand the motives but not the result.

Yeah, that's true imo. Although I'm sure some of the people that downloaded the song were doing so because they hated Joe, even though the original campaign wasn't about that.

It definitely had a bad effect on Joe though, the label didn't take him seriously afterwards and once Olly Murs got to no.1 with his first single, that was it, they decided to treat Olly as the winner. I'm glad Joe's doing well with another label now though and look forward to what he does in the future.

Heard a snippet today, will be buying when it's out. Just a shame that Rebecca Ferguson supports the cause by being on the single but still gives interviews to The Sun

Rebecca has never worked for The Sun. She gives interviews to a collection of journalists which often include The Sun.
If you google any of the people involved in the single with The Sun, including Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard you will find similar interviews and quotes.
