Does it have to be new, as gradeA refurbishments will meet the price?

£259 is pretty good.
I did a quick search and found a new Windows 7 15.6" laptop for: £290 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/CQ57-420SA-1...885377&sr=1-43. £280 - http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/HP_650_1302826.html. |

This is what something like a Chromebook should have been for. But they priced themselves out of the market.
Does it have to be a laptop? How about a samsung tablet if its only for email? |

Even if you could get a new laptop for £200 it would be awful.
You need to look at a second hand one. |

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.” ― John Ruskin 1819-1900 |

FWIW Amazon have the Acer C7 Chromebook for £199 if that's of any interest.

Yes to the first (11.6" they say not that it matters much) and to the best of my very limited knowledge of Chromebooks presumably yes to the second as well. Oh well, it might have been of some interest possibly.

OP, if you care about your Gran, don't buy her a really cheap and nasty laptop which will be really slow and go wrong. Either find some more money or get a good quality "previously loved" one that will perform well. Or, can you fix/upgrade the old one? |
