Mistake while piping on a cake
I have piped a message onto white fondant and I'm using a light blue icing for my message.
It should read "To Sensei Cope. Happy Birthday from all at Wirral Shotokan", but I've missed out the word "Cope" Can I scrape it off and replace the missing word or is it too late ? |

I don't know if scraping it off would work or if it would leave a blue mess behind, but do you have enough fondant icing left to make a kind of 'plaque' that you could ice the message onto and then place this on top of the cake, hiding the mistake? You could give the plaque fancy edges and make it look like that's how it was always intended to be.

I would cut out the fondant in the area you want to fix, then re-do the fondant. Will be much easier to smooth and blend it into the surrounding white and then pipe again, then hide a mess of blue underneath more blue.

If the icing is still soft it would be ok to scrape it off, then smooth the top by dipping a pallet knife in warm water.

Thanks for the advice, guys, but I decided to leave it as it was.
The thing is, I only noticed my mistake when I finished and stood back to view my work ! I'll put the pic up when I take the photo, so you can see what a div I was !

Aww, well done - another great bit of baking there Andy!
![]() Tbh, omitting the word was probably better as it gave the cake a more balanced look as you had a design on it too.

Why not?
I really don't think people believe the technique, time, skill, time, effort/ dedication etc. It winds me up! :mad I used to knit matinee coats/Aran - etc for my children. I once knitted '3 ply' matinee coats for a 'friend' - I bought the wool she chose etc - and she looked aghast at the price of the wool she wanted - did she appreciate the time it took me to knit matinee costs? Umm, no! I was rewarded with a bottle of Lambrini!
