The Nexus 4 is about £240 if you buy direct from Google. Right now, however, there's no stock and no sign of any news of when they'll have more stock to sell. If you can wait until after Christmas, you might be lucky then.

You can back up your contacts and photos to your Google account, as well as your music.

If you're looking for a capable budget handset BTW it is worth looking at Huawei. I have the ascend g300 which is a great phone for the price.

You do know that Steve jobs vowed to "destroy" android with all of Apple's money, and to his dying breath, don't you?

He'd be turning in his grave* a million times quicker were you to buy an S3 over a Lumia 820.

*if he wasn't cryogenically frozen somewhere.

I heard that before somewhere. So if I bought an Android phone I wouldn't be loyal to the Jobs? Maybe I should don my black turtleneck and start saying my prayers Doesn't the Lumia 820 run Windows though? I try to keep M$ products way from my Macs

I got the Nexus 4 at CPW for 389 quid. They are all unlocked as far as I know.

I realise you are joking but you do know that Apple and Microsoft settled their differences along time ago.
In fact Apple has settled with HTC and Motorola - Google have agreed to arbitration so it seems the only hold out is Samsung.

I think I heard that but some people might laugh at me if I was using a Mac with a Windows phone as I claim to hate M$ products like a good Mac user I'm sure using a Samsung phone with a Mac is fine. I saw someone a couple of days ago with a Samsung phone and Macbook and nobody said anything. I asked him about it though and he said it was perfectly acceptable. Plus I'll be keeping my iPod Touch so that will help my reputation a bit

Honestly if anyone gives a crap what gadgets you use I would be shocked.

Why on earth would you care what someone thinks of your choice of gadgets?

Well I finally got it. Went for the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 in the end. I got it in the UK and stuck my Irish SIM card into it and it works fine. Been using it all day. As for apps, so far I've installed all the Angry Birds games, Bad Piggies, the CNBC news app and the Prey anti-theft app (a bit like Undercover for Mac/iOS). I thought it would be a good idea. I love the phone so far Just have to start syncing it with my Mac(s).

I'd certainly be interested to hear how you get on here. Android is cheekily winking at me, but how well it plays with a Mac is of great concern. How many hoops do you have to jump through for it to play well with OS X's Address Book and iCal? And even more importantly, are there any 'gotchas' with the various iTunes sync solutions?

Don't worry, I'll keep you in the loop I downloaded a program called DoubleTwist, which is basically iTunes for Android. I haven't yet plugged it into a Mac though as I've only had it since yesterday. I take it you currently have an iPhone? And do tell it to stop winking at you!
