They were back in their day. They all got together when they were in school. Just cos they stayed together till adulthood does not stop them from originally being a boy band. Take That were a boy band but you wouldnt call them one now they are all midle aged..

I can't agree with that. Four Tops and never been classed as a boy band..........I've been a fan of theirs since the year dot and none of the bands in those days have ever been classed as boy bands. They may have been young when they first formed but never a boy band......not in a million years

The difference was that i dont think the term 'boy band' had been penned at that time. I think it was an 80s thing. But they were four schoolboys that formed a band. Hence boys in a band might have been a more correct term for him to use.

Possibly.

Yes, the term boy band wasn't around at the time.......but even so, you do not call icons like the Four Tops a boy band in any shape or form....not in a million years.

Those guys had more talent in their little finger than GB could ever hope to have imo.

Yes, I think the term probably wasn't used then. But also were they marketed to appeal mainly to young girls? I don't know much about The Four Tops or Motown, but I don't get the impression that they were. Because boy bands are always aimed at young girls.
