I watched W.E today and was pleasantly by it but why the hell did Madonna not release 'Masterpiece' as a single- its a beautiful song and the remixes are even better- such a shame she did not release this..

Totally agree. I cried when I heard it and it is a song even better live. When she can write and produce such amazing music as this, why she realises the likes of Turn Up the Radio is beyond me.

MDNA sadly was a case of Interscope "wanting hits" sounding songs released and the best material not getting a seeing to....But i hope that they learn from this and i am over the moon Madonna has penned ideas and songs down already for album 13...so hopefully we can get more soulful, melancholic and expressive Madonna again like on Masterpeice, Falling Free, Love SPent, Beautiful Killer and I F-d Up....cannot wait.

But yes the singles, the lack of any promo...all mishandeled....but the tour had the winning formula this era.

Madonna may yet release 'Masterpiece'..

she released 'Oh Father' six years after it was originally put on 'Like The Prayer' album...

This song is so beautiful and deserved to be pushed as a single. I could imagine a beautiful video and the fact it won a golden globe pretty much says how special the song was. It is a truly breathtaking song. Her vocals are so incredible and always performs is beautifully on the MDNA tour. She may not have the vocals of Adele when it comes to her ballads, but Madonna's ballads are not your normal typical ballads and have some breathtaking lyrics to them. Masterpiece in my opinion could of been this year's song to have played at your wedding.

Andrew Lloyd Webber said Madonna's voice lends itself to ballads so well and he is right. Her ballads, esp the real personal one's, are always amazing. I think this is why Ray Of Light did so well for her because 80% of the material was slow tracks.

they played it a lot on radio 2 at the time of the film release i think, was it not officially a single? More of a "lead track"

It was a like UK promo song. Even heart fm played it a lot and they only ever play her 80's music.

It was released as a promo to radio stations and Radio 2 certainly picked up on it. I am surprised that Heart played it. I heard 'Masterpiece' played on Ken Bruce's and Jeremy Vine's shows on one of my days off in March this year so it was getting quite heavy rotation on Radio 2.

As I stated on another thread, I'm surprised that Madonna didn't perform 'Masterpiece' when she gave an interview promoting 'WE' on Graham Norton's show. The Golden Globe awards ceremony was only a few days away after the Norton interview so it is surprising that the opportunity to promote the song wasn't taken then. Speaking from experience it is a beautiful song when performed live: I was fortunate to see Madonna at the NIA in the summer.

It should have been released as a single. I'm with Josh on this - Interscope are to blame.

Nobody does a ballad better IMO. I really want her to go in this direction and have a ballad/mid tempo album next time

Lets get some Balaclavas and take em dowwwwn

But seriously i agree...i mean rather than having Emeli Sande on their performing (although the millions watching surely helped her and she was so humbled) why not have Madonna perform a bit like how she did on Wossy in 2003 or Letterman in 2000 and Parkinson in 2005, just do a performance of Masterpiece and talk about W.E, then perform Luvin, talk about Superbowl/MDNA (remember she first unveiled the title of the album there and then too...i remember that...CRAZY!!) and then perhaps a little hits medley as a warm up for the Superbowl (Music/Holiday/Hung Up maybe?) i mean why didnt they get M to take advantage of it...unless of course she dcided not too? I mean she didnt perform on Ellen recently either.

But damn ...ah well when the new material is out i hope Madonna milks every opportunity possible

And totally when Madonna creates a ballad...she makes it stem from a raw place....and with that raw energy she creates such a display of work....look at the Like A Prayer album the Erotica album, Ray Of Light, Music, American Life.....i mean when she channels such raw emotion it shows in her voice and production....thats why i feel a Rockish centered album and Alternative feel may be a venture to head....taking on board what "worked" on MDNA (Love SPent, Masterpeice, Beautiful Killer for example) and push it forward on album 13 in a new area

It should have been a single considering it managed top 75 over here upon the release of MDNA, a proper release would have made it bigger over here

Blame the label and Madonna

Madonna has just wanted to get on with touring with this project which all well in good, but also, i feel the label haven't been fully behind this album with her.
