Come on, now. She was great fun and all that and could belt 'em out really really loud - but am I the only one who found her performances quite painful to listen to?

I'm genuinely perturbed by this.

Rowetta is a good singer, but I don't consider her great. I certainly liked listening to her singing though. Steve and Rowetta were the only two acts that I looked forward to hearing on the X Factor every week. I wouldn't have minded if it was only the Steve and Rowetta show

I think Rowetta has a fabulous voice - she is a fantastic singer.

Her voice never really appealed to me.

Rowetta has a powerful voice. I think it's a type of voice that you have to like (ie deep strong, a bit masculine if you like) and I really enjoyed listening to it.

Rowetta had a great voice that improved during the competition, ironically the week she performed best and gave her song subtelty (can't spell it) she went. But the point is lost commenting on the voice, she had the X Factor in spades, her personality, sense of fun and openess was a joy to see, I loved her unpredictibility. Over to you PIV

Sorry, but I really hated her voice. All power and no emotion.

She can't sing she just shouts. Her over the top personalty hides her lack of talent.

No she's not good......she's exceptionally brilliant.

She sounds a bit like Mel B on Bo Selecta - 'yer complete set of b******s, yer!'

Does it actually matter whether she is a good singer or not? She certainly wasn't my cup of tea. I thought she shouted and was emotionless but that is purely my opinion. She obviously gave pleasure to a lot of people and surely that is all that matters.

I love her voice, which I think is a corker!! and yes sm I agree about WYTMTYLM there IS subtlety there too,and I too REALLY LOVE the "X Factor" of Rowetta, which for me is all about her survival of this crazy world we all live in....yes Ro is a genuine survivor, and the journey that took Rowetta to the XF is completely defined in her voice.
None of the other 49,999 contestants IMO had the vocal "humanity" that Rowetta did,it comes from deep within, maybe some of you know what I'm talking about?
It's special...I think it's called an 'X Factor'.

Its a singing competition. So yes it does matter if she is a good singer or not.

Its not an air guitar competition or a feel sorry for me because I got close to fame but messed it up competition.

Of course she can sing! Bloody fantastically well in fact! This woman HAS to get a recording contract! Bloody awesome! I was a Steve fan throughout, but she was a very close second! I was soooooooo gutted when she left the comp..like she predicted, the show was never the same without her. Who cares if she was highly strung off-stage? What mattered was how she performed ON STAGE. We all know she seemed to be behaving a bit erratically on the night she left, but that didn't stop her put in a truly awesome and subtle performance....the sign of a true star!

For me, the best performance of the entire sreies was when she sang Somewhere...outstanding..I cried. Please don't let this be the last we ever hear of this amazing woman...........

Okay. I'll shut up now.

There are a whole load of GRCers nodding furiously in agreement with your post.
I too loved her version of "Somewhere" but I thought that "WYTMTYLM" was just OUT OF THIS WORLD brilliant!!Real "Torch Singer" stuff.
It's a very special gift being able to touch your audience emotionally, and Ro's final performance of WYTMTYLM on XF(second of the night)was IMO just heartbreakingly good.
I promise you WDD she will be singing to full houses long after the other 49,999 are LONG forgotten. (oh I forgot to say IMO of course )
Love her or hate her no-one will EVER forget her.

I agree PIV. WITYTILY was amazing....how on earth she went out on that performance, I guess we'll never know. But at least she went out with her head held high. On her audition I just thought she was a looney tune with a reasonably good voice, but I was still praying they'd put her through...mostly for the entertainment factor, but when she sang Over The Rainbow at Boot camp, I was hooked! I took her totally seriously after that. She NEVER gave a bad or even average performance.

As I recall, you have a habit of picking out the talent from these type of shows....weren't you a Susanne fan on PI2?

Yes indeed I was
I think if she began to push herself a bit harder it could really start to happen for her....but she MUST start treating her singing seriously.
Has she done any gigs since PI2?(she should IMO)
Rowetta obviously is IMO a lot more experienced from her "HM's backing singer" days, and that hunger to succeed finally looks like it WILL pay off after all...yay!
I LOVE THAT GIRL.

Susanne has done quite a few gigs since she left PI2. Mostly with her church, but don't let that put you off. They play the type of music that was suited to her style. She's currently working as a producer/co-presenter on BBC Radio Berkshire on the Phil Kennedy show. And from what I can gather, she's still got a lot of support (certainly from me.)

Do you think that perhaps X Factor would have been a much better showcase for her talents than PI? She would have been allowed to show off her own style and not be restricted to those daft themes like disco, which were her ultimate downfall? The voting figures proved that she was easily the early favourite on that show)

I will try looking for some links for you to let you know what she's been up to......shortysally will help me out there, I'm sure.

rowettas performances were brialliant, and she can do moe than belt songs out, she has rannge and she proved that when she sung when you tell me that you love me and over the rain bow both great performances and showed she is a great singer.

Of course not everybody likes the same style of singing as is obvious from the polarised opinions found on these boards. Personally I really enjoy hearing and seeing Rowetta right from the start and the programme lost a lot of interest for me once she had gone. I am not a music expert but I know what I like listening to and I really enjoyed hearing Rowetta sing with such emotion but I appreciate that style won't appeal to everyone - it is called diversity and makes life interesting.

I think she was another one that people just either loved or didn't (like G4). I could see she had talent, like G4, but they just weren't really my thing.
