The Cowell machine is as corrupt as it gets - it doesn't care how low it has to stoop to get the results it wants. Remember the 'Creepy Wagner' stories? The 'Benefit Cheat' Johnny Robinson? Same smear campaigns over and over and people fall for them. Acts on Cowell's pay (Little Mix and OD) both badmouthing Chris, Louis calling him a backstage diva.

Even if Chris isn't your favourite, everyone should be against these kinds of tactics. I didn't even really care about Chris for the first few weeks but it's now so blatant and absurd that I think people are beginning to see this for what it is and I'm now hoping he goes all the way.

Maloney to win.

They do need to learn that character assassination is wrong. If they didn't want him in the show, they shouldn't have put him through to Judges Houses. Good luck to him.

It was probably only at judges' houses that they realised what he's like. Gary didn't put him through, the public did, as Christopher himself is so fond of reminding us every week

His first audition was 'The Rose' wasn't it? I think he has been very, very consistent with his 80s ballads. How could they have not realised what he's like?

The fact is, it's a family entertainment show (it's not a cutting edge singing contest), and should have acts on it who sing in a range of styles / genres to maximise appeal for the viewing public. He does suit the show, but perhaps they don't feel he suits the prize. Simple solution, change the prize or don't put people like him through. They put him through, so now they should just deal with it. Yes, the public got him to the live shows, but bootcamp, judges houses, wildcard...that was the producers. They made their bed, so now they should stop with the carry on and just lie in it.

I'm assuming it is based on the VT of Chris, when he made the comment about Ella, something along the lines, 'I'm getting the backlash, if you wanted her to stay in the competition, you should have picked up the phone and voted for her. It's not my fault'.

It wasn't a nasty comment, the VT is edited in such a way that you obviously don't hear the questions he is asked, they used a jump cut to emphasise his point and he looked a little flippant when saying it. Remember that a lot of material is left out and the presentation was clearly attempting to make Chris look a little cold / harsh. The reality...it's not his flipping fault Ella left the show, so what's he supposed to say?

Gary or the producers or both chose Chris to be Gary's 'wildcard'. The public didn't. They chose him from the four 'wildcards' representing each category.

TBH it is little more than karaoke, and so Chris is the ultimate karaoke singer. It would be poetic justice for him to win.

You do realise the former colleague brought this to the press... and not the X Factor... right? Are people so blind-sided by this they don't understand journalism?

I would say that people are not so naive as not to realise that it's rather strange that this former colleague only comes out with this tale at such a late stage in the competition. It's very convenient that she did not get the incident logged with an official complaint, but phoned her Mother to tell her about it.

When somebody suddenly becomes "famous" there are always people from their past who can be persuaded to come forward with derogatory stories, which often have no evidence to sustantiate them.

Having read the article, I laughed out loud when I got to the bit about Chris's eyes "burning red" - just like the set they inflicted on him last week.

I don't doubt the X Factor do things, but I think going out to find people to relay stories is a bit much. I'm pretty sure it's more just the girl seeking attention and falling in line with the current "situation". Every year this happens, to good and bad contestants alike. Didn't someone come out about Little Mix and drugs or something last year?

Of course, the negative press about Chris helps the X Factor and their game.

Absolutely! It is karaoke. Those voting for Chris aren't the ones being 'taken in' or having smoke blown up their arses. I personally do not give a s**t who does what post-X Factor. I don't care if they fail to release an record between them. It is the people who think that James or Jahmene are future stadium-crammers that I feel sorry for. They are the ones who really are not getting it.

Oh deary me

How could you possibly know of the provenance of the story? Did, as you suggest, a person simply approach the press with it? Was that person 'unearthed' by others (tabloid journos or private detectives) digging about? Is the story totally true, embellished, totally fabricated? We do not and will not know.

I feel sorry for Chris. It's all fair to joke around, I joke about Chris, Rylan, Union J but it's nothing malicious. I'm sure they're all lovely people.

I think it's highly unprofessional of Little Mix and One Direction to call him horrible names, when they came through the same machine and some of them got horrible comments. Joking is one thing but deliberate sabtoage is another, especially with them knowing they'll have fans saying "Oh little mix like Union J, I'll vote for them then," or something similar.

Wasnt she the one crying last year because everyone was so nasty about her on twitter?

Now shes joining in with the mob this year?

Its either highly hypocritical or she has no insight into her own behaviour at all

"the moon faced one" ... LOL

But you're right. They're worried their five minutes of fame is nearly over.

The public only got him through to the shows as the one they liked best out of the choice of 4 given by the show.

Why is it so hard to believe people hate him?

Not everything has to be a conspiracy.

If it had just been the tabloids, yes. But when the official X Factor website posts about how Chris should be voted out and how it's a sympathy vote, then that's not on. The official channel for news is meant to be unbiased, yes? How does that explain the reactions and views of Louis? And Tulisa? And Dermot and Caroline? At least Olly has less bias than his colleague!

I can see the headlines "Karaoke singer wins televised karaoke competition". It IS a big karaokefest, and Chris is the rightful winner. Job done.

Lets just hope the monster dies in a couple of weeks, and the final is the last ever airing of the fiXFactor.
