Normally at this stage the competition goes to public vote. Is this going to happen next week or will there be a bottom 2 to give the program more control. Hoping to catch Chris in bottom 2?

With Chris having been saved this week there will be a sing off next week, probably accompanied by strategically placed articles in the press all week about Chris drowning his neighbour's cat or something equally far fetched

I think as Christopher is still there they might keep the judges vote, to veto the public one.

Imagine if there is a sing off next week and Union J are saved again, they will be in the final after being in the bottom two 4 times!

If there is a sing off then it will be between James and Union J with James going into the final. If it is only based on public vote, James will go home.

Are the rules not posted anywhere?

Or is this just another way of manipulating the show so the public has no real say?

Not after the mess they made fixing the semi-final to get Mary out over Cher.

They make the rules up as they go along. We have one act in the semi final (Union J) who didn't even audition.

I wouldn't be surprised if its a bottom 3 sing off next week, with the judges sending 1 home out of the 3.

Depends who is at the bottom of the votes. Remember in 2010 when they changed their minds and had a bottom two between Cher and Mary because Cher had the least votes, even though they said there would be no bottom two the night before....

That would

1) totally backfire if Chris topped the votes again
and 2) give out the winner

Would this be Cher who has been doing rather well for herself recently?

The thing is, there are no holy rules. Some people talk about 'manipulation' as if it's this dark and defiling thing that's happening and as if they're entitled to have something pure . . . in the end you get to vote to save people. That's it.

If people don't like this, they shouldn't really be voting. Although it has to be said, the real sense of entitlement people can act as if they have is kind of a product of the show's 'EVERYTHING IS SO IMPORTANT' message.

To be fair, Cher Vs Mary was rigged. The night before that results show Dermot said there would be no sing off and the next day because Mary wasnt the lowest vote getter, they had a sing off.

I can imagine that too. But the X factor is such a joke, people will still vote for him and he will win it and end up like Steve Brookner. But hey its only a reality show. I dont even bother watching it. Only watch the last 10 minutes of the results show.

Except for last year (2011) when Misha B went out in a public vote.

And 2009 when Danyl Johnson went out in a public vote.

And not in 2010 when they wanted Mary out.

Is that you Mr Cowell?

I wish the XFactor would take a big step like the US The Voice has this year and only let the judges manipulate it to a certain point, then let the public decide.

I would much prefer a bottom 3 for the first couple of weeks to see which 3 are struggling or considered safe etc then public lowest vote goes out, all the way!

They should really hand the show over to the public, completely or why bother at all. The public shouldn't have to make decisions about who is going to sell records in the US, why should they care? The majority probably just want to keep seeing the ones they like sing each week till the show ends.
