So it's pretty much guaranteed they're going next week, unless by some miracle Christopher ends up in the bottom two with them AND they decide to have a sing-off.

I hate when X Factor becomes predictable, we pretty much know how the line-up is gonna be now.

If the rebound vote/fanbase push to get them to the final is strong enough they might pip James to 3rd but I don't think they expect to win or even get to the final tbh. They'll go on to do well anyway so they shouldn't be worried.

I wouldn't be so sure of them going next week. Remember, they had more votes than James last week. Next week, they will be getting the rebound vote while James loses his. I think Union J might just scrape through to the final, where they'll probably end up in 3rd place.

Depends on the bottom two. Union J will scrape to the final if they get second place, but if they're third and James is fourth you can guarantee a sing off to ensure James stays. It all depends on where people are in the rankings - I assume Chris and Jahmene are certs for the final...

If there's a sing off in the semi final that would just scream manipulation considering there's never been a singoff in the final four.

There has never been a sing-off when there were only four people left, although I could definitely see them adding one like they did in series 7.

Unless they want to fix it like they did for Cher in her year then there should not be a sing-off next week it should go solely on the public vote.

That was for fifth place. The same as the sing off tonight.

Yes, but it was for fifth place as there was four in the final that year, so it's equivalent to Union J being saved tonight and Misha being saved last year.

In all three cases the top four were voted solely by the public, whether it was the quarter or semi-final is irrelevant.

My logic? The week that Mary left and they took her and Cher to sing-off was week 9, which was the week before the final which they call every year (on air) the semi-final. I really don't know how anyone can be arguing that wasn't the semi-final.

It was the semi-final, but it was for fifth place. I don't know how you can't see how it's the same as Union J and Misha being saved.

Because it wasn't the semi-final lol. However many acts they choose to keep to the semi-final it should still remain in the hands of the public and in fact at the end of week 8 Dermot announced everything was now in the hands of the viewers (and then they went to sing-off the week after).

And for the record I like Cher, she is one of the only three X factor acts I've ever bought a song by however I think that they fixed it to get her to the final.

Yeah but the finishing order is more important that whether or not it's the semi-final, so if it was a fix for Cher (I do agree it was), it was for Misha and Union J too, but if there's another bottom two next week, then it's another level of fix and not comparable to Cher being saved from finishing fifth as it would be the first time a bottom two was held for fourth place.

Last year there wasn't a bottom two even though I'm sure they wanted to save Misha over Amelia (Misha wasn't that far off anyway, 21% to 20% I think, they could've saved her had they given her a better slot).

There's never been a singoff in the final four so I hope there isn't one this year but knowing the producers

A girl on X Factor Australia was bottom two three times, including in week 1. She won the whole thing last week.

Yes but Samantha was building up momentum week after week, which Union J aren't really doing. Samantha also had an amazing mentor who did everything perfectly while Union J have Louis Walsh

I think it will be the public vote next week but Dermot didn't confirm that at the end of tonight's ITV1 show which I think he has done in previous years the week before the semi-final.

Sorry but thats rubbish - if she was building up momentum, she wouldn't have been bottom 2 after the 1st week

Yeah maybe, I hadn't thought about the rebound vote. Maybe if UJ harp on about being in the bottom 2 next week during the VT and how devastating it was, then maybe they have a shot...

I can just picture it now... George crying in the VT, the others comforting him, Louis doing an emotional plea after their second song (doing that thing where his voice cracks as he clenches his fist in pure passion), the boys making sad faces into the camera when Dermot reads their number out... Come on Union J, you can do this!
