Yes, I'd said in another thread somewhere that I have no clue why they put George with the other three. He sticks out like a sore thumb and aside from strumming his guitar now and again, seems surplus to requirements imo.

He has a great voice but I can't see him as a solo artist.
Why hasn't JJ sung anything on his own?

How good he is at it will be the acid test of whether Flack takes any interest in him.

It would be more constructive if he started spelling his name J A M I E rather than this affected spelling

what do you mean, being chased down the hotel corridor (whilst wearing monkey onesie) by James Arthur is not normal for a 19 year old?

Why should everyone have to spell their name the same way? Lots of names have variations in spelling, e.g. Mark and Marc, Stewart and Stuart, Graham and Graeme, Claire and Clare.

Marc Bolan's first name was originally spelt Mark, but he changed it to Marc.

I agree.

While I love Harry Styles, and can see a resemblance - George gives me the creeps - his face looks kind of plastic

I ususally can't stand boyband but I think Jaymi has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard. I don't think he should ditch the others but I think he's got a great future as a solo artist in about 10 years time!!

He shouldn't ditch them. Can't see him getting anywhere as a solo artist. He has a strong voice but without the other boys behind him I'd find him as boring and bland as I find Christopher.

I love Jaymi and would buy his solo album but I do think Union J works as a group and is the right avenue for him. On his own he wouldn't have the teen girl vote so it makes sense to have him as lead singer in a group.

I just don't understand this argument that all the singers in a boy/girl band have to have equally good voices - Take That, Boyzone, Spice Girls and Girls Aloud all had one or two main singers as do One Direction and Little Mix - why should a new band need to go down a different route? Don't get me wrong I really liked District 3 and it was nice that they could all sing well, but that isn't some sort of rule that has to be followed.

I predict that Jaymi will have a number of solo albums, but not until Union J have tasted considerable success.

It's a boy 'band' for god's sake, does anyone really think it matters whether all four of them can sing? It's never mattered in any boy group in the history of pop music! They are there to look good for hormonal young girls, as long as one can carry a half decent tune, it's irrelevant.

As for Jaymi going it alone, as someone has already pointed out, he's another Joe McElderrey and look what happened to him. Was never gonna be a solo star but his style is perfect for theatre. He needs the other 3 lads almost as much as they need him, to make it as a pop star.

It may not matter.............but it does beg the question why they are there if they can't. Aside from George who strums a guitar now and again, it doesn't appear the others play an instrument. So basically they are ornaments.....nice to look at, but with no practical use whatsoever

It's not 2001 anymore

The only solo guys who get record deals are either indie, urban, or have quirky personalities

So just like many many boy band members before them then...

And anyway, I can think of at least two uses for them, they wouldnt be able to sing at the same time but hey-ho....

That's exactly what I explained in the next sentence! Boy bands are not picked up by labels cos they are 4 talented singers. They need to appeal to young girls, that's it. Having four of them just gives them a wider appeal and a wider appeal means more sales. Nothing difficult to work out here, it's all about money.

Oh I know how it works...........mind you, I think if I knew I was carrying the other three and they weren't that good at singing I'd be mightly hacked off them taking the same share of the profits LOL!

My comment was more of an 'so what is the point of them' kinda thing. (aside from youngsters oggling them).

I'm fully aware that not all group members can sing that great, but they usually play an instrument of some kind to add some input into the group.

Well no one in One Direction or JLS or The Wanted plays an instrument (at least, not one I've seen used in any song). In fact, the only boy band member I can ever remember who did play one was Gary Barlow. So maybe Union J are unique in that they have George who can play guitar

Who? I certainly don't remember Jason or Posh or various nameless Irish boys playing instruments? Actually I can maybe picture Take That all seemingly playing something during their comeback but that was after 10 years with nothing to do but learn guitar.

Their job is to stand in the back looking pretty so that everyone has something to look at, provide a bit of personality in interviews, maybe dance, hook up with a celebrity after a couple of years to keep the band in the papers. They'll sometimes get to sing on an album track and it they are really lucky maybe even a single or two (Mark Owen I'm looking at you).

I think you have missed the point of my post. I know exactly how it works.........and in all fairness I don't really care one way or the other.

I was simply saying that for all the good the other three are they may as well not be there........nothing more than that, I was in fact being a tad sarcastic, which seems to have been missed

He's the best singer by miles and may well have won the comp on his own, but to do well in the charts atm he does need the other three. His kind of voice and image wouldn't really thrive right now, whereas the band is massively marketable (in this country - I don't see them having quite the same US crossover appeal).

All of the Wanted play instruments, from guitars to piano, and use them in quite a lot of live performances as well as on the actual tracks at times.

I think one or two of 1D might play guitars too.

Jaymi is a much better singer than G Barlow. - But alas he has no image or unique tone, which the vast majority of solo singers need to have to make it.

Think george michael , elton john , rod stewart , boy george , robbie williams etc etc etc - all had something unique or outrageous about them.

Michael Buble was just ultra gorgeous as well as a great singer.

This is where Chris has HIS appeal........... Tom Jones , englebert , des o`connor etc etc

Jaymis sort of in no mans land,.
