it's terrible. The word three is not pronounced like 'free'. This is just one example of his annoying voice and presentation.

I dislike him, but I don't get this. Does it really matter how someone pronounces something? Not everyone can help it.

I believe if you're doing tv presenting and voice overs then it does matter

of course it matters - it's our fundamental means of communication. what a silly remark.

Way to blow a minor issue way out of proportion. I was clearly referring to pronunciation issues where you can still easily understand what they're saying. I don't think someone pronouncing "three" as "free" is a threat to communcation.

Heck, you just made a typo! Is that not a bad form of communcation? If someone can't help the way they talk, I refuse to get on my high horse to make myself feel superior over them.

I don't feel superior... But then I wouldn't expect to be considered suitable for tv announcing

just out of interest..do you have a problem with Scottish/Welsh or Irish as they pronounce words differently??
RickWhite

No, as long as they are clear. Lots of news presenters are Scottish

you must be confusing accents with pronunciation.

We all make typos don't we? But I think most people with half a brain know how to pronounce 'three'. Anyone with pronunciation problems should not be presenting; there are enough people wanting jobs who could do it much better than him.

That's their dialect, not mispronunciation. There is a big difference.

It's his job to communicate effectively - there are a ton and a half of talented actors out there who could do his job considerably better!

There's a vast difference between 'accent' and 'pronunciation'.

Of course it matters, you wouldn't pronounce 'sh' as a 'b'. He's as bad as Jeff 'Firty Fazan Panz' Brazier, only more flatulent, not so polite or housetrained.

Who cares - the amount of people I hear swearing in public annoys me a lot more than Joe. I find him quite amusing at times. I would rather have personality over pronunciation.

the other night, various forum members were ridiculing the americans for not being able to pronounce words like 'mirror' as they 'should' be pronounced, saying that the english invented the language so english pronunciations were always correct.
maybe joe or eric can give us dumb americans elocution lessons, eh?

Those discussions always make me laugh. Americans by-and-large are more easily understood and speak more confidently, eloquently and congruently than we do in the British Isles.

Also, I was going to say that at least he hasn't kissed any men this year - then tonight he planted one right on Colin's lips. Idiot.

Can Joe Swash (an actor) "do" any other accents? Bit limiting for his career if he can't.
