Why do most acts sound better in the sing off?
Im not just talking about rylan actually sounding good on his sing off tonight there has been loads of times an act has struggled in the main show then smashed it during the sing off. Ruth lorenzo was always great as was weasel.
I think its because it is the contestants choice what to sing where as in the show its the mentors / producers who pick the songs and style them etc. Its easy too see when a contestant isnt comfortable and would prefer to stay in their comfort zone. Take Jade for example, she was horrendous singing freak like me but sung white flag beautifully. I think its why some acts have great auditions then get worse as the competition progresses. The producers should stop being so involved |

Then again District 3 and Ella gave awful performances in the sing off. Guess some acts rise to the occasion and some don't.

I think it's because the acts get up and sing ballads, or the type of song which they are comfortably with, and suits their styles. Basically, they have a choice, rather than it being determined by a certain theme, the judge, or the producers.

I think it's the obvious, because they really have to fight for it, that's why they usually go all out

Maybe because it could be their last time so they want to give it their all and go knowing they did the best they could do.

It's because it's a song of their choice, in their comfort zone and rehearsed over and over again. As someone said it's probably their last chance and is vocally a plea to keep them in the game.

There's never been a year where the sing-off has brought out the best in almost everyone as this has. With only a few exceptions it's been the case right across the board.
They're able to sing songs of their own choosing, and through familiarity there's little chance of them forgetting the words. No big production to worry about - no dance routine. They can sing a song with personal meaning, which helps them connect with the lyrics, and the audience . And having sang it many times before they've mapped it out in their heads exactly how they will sing it. They've chosen a song which fits their range and got it in the right key. And it could be the last time they'll ever perform on TV, so 'let's go out with a bang'. I actually think developing this may rescue the ratings next year. Make Sunday the main show, Saturday just the taster to set up votes. Make them all sing in a bottom 2, each act brought out from a soundproofed booth. The judges, Dermot and the audience would have no idea which is the real bottom 2. Maybe the judges have to decide which of each bottom 2 would go home, providing drama many times over. Then after they've all sung their hearts out Dermot would announce who the real bottom 2 were and either the judges decide then who goes home, or it goes to the vote. Drama many times over and everyone singing to their best ability. |

2 things they pick there own song and pick a song to there strength and not have to pick a song to suit a theme that doesn't suit them also they no its there last chance and there fighting for there lives to stay in the compition.
The easy way to radicate this is do away with the stupid themes and let the artist sing whatever they want. Why do you need to show your versatile stick to what your good at. Its not like once a person leaves the contest there going to release a mixture of genre of songs are they. Let them be and develope into who they will be after they have left the show on the show and just maybe we'll get a lot less of failures. |

I agree re being able to sing to their strengths.
I also think there is no distraction, No dancers, no having to run around the stage (although this is the case with Jahmene anyway!) so they can concentrate totally on just getting the song out. |

They aren't styled & produced a certain way, they just sing without worrying about their outfit, choreography, podiums/boxes/flying harnesses etc. |

I think it's because there's no gimmicks or big production behind them.

I would imagine that the threat of elimination gets the adrenaline pumping.

I'd agree that without all the production, you just get to hear them sing the right song for them. A lot of big stars can't jump about and sing well and I think it's the same for the contestants. Without all the noise and running about, Rylan sang really well but I think others don't do so well under pressure or without the distraction of fireworks and dancers.

Because they usually sing a straightforward powerful song, in which you can hear their voices clearly.
