and ITV are going to introduce a brand spanking new, fresh singing competition to replace The X Factor for 2013, but need your help in planning for it.

They would like to know:

- What would the overall format be like? Auditions? Boot camp? Judge's Houses? Live Shows?
- Would you like to see closed auditions or auditions in front of a crowd?
- What judges would you have? Would they also be mentors within the competition?
- Who would be your ideal presenter/s?
- How should the acts be eliminated? Just based on the public vote? The judges decide? A head judge? Deadlock?
- Should there be themes or should acts just be able to perform what they want, when they want?
- Would there be a spinoff show? What would it be like and involve?
- What should be the voting procedure? Vote for who you like? Who you don't like? Both? Should there be a new way to vote? A free vote? A voting restriction on the number of times you can vote?
- Is there any elements from any singing competitions you would like to see? (The X Factor, Pop Idol, The Voice?)
- Any other ideas?

So basically what would your ideal singing competition be?

The ideal singing competition for me is something along the lines of The X Factor minus all the obvious manipulation. There should always be some sort of bottom two because sometimes the public screw up, failing that I believe American Idol have a "save" the judges can use?

There should also be a free vote. I believe XFUSA have an online vote which is free and they should really implement it here.

The most important thing, in fact given the situation with someone like Christopher it appears to be reaching a level of format emergency, is to limit the number of votes to 1-per-phone-number. That way there'll be less chance of a false popularity being caused by repeat dialing teenagers, towns known to get behind their boy/girl even if they're crap, or people who have a nice little earner going at the bookies and consider £50 on their phone bill worthwhile if they can 'help along' the desired result. By more reliably establishing a popular winner there's a greater chance that will translate into higher music sales, so Cowell gets his money that way.

Closed auditions. There's far too many young males put through based on the hormonal reaction of what appears to be a predominantly female audience. Much is decided the moment they walk out on stage. It becomes the sex factor.

4 new judges (if this is to be a brand new show). Someone like Cathy Dennis. Maybe a guest judge each week. I think I'd prefer to get rid of the mentoring. If the entire show hinges on that, and the bickering between judges as they defend their acts, then there's too high a risk of failure, with the selection of judges and their chemistry more important than the contestants.

Spin-off show - a return the original house reality show, where the contestant's day-to-day life was shown. We saw far more of who got on with whom then, instead of having to second guess everything based on lukewarm congratulations and body language on results night.

I like the battle rounds in The Voice. The blind auditions are great too, but I can't see the BBC allowing someone to pinch that - it may be subject to a format copyright?

The Saturday night show should be the shorter one, set up only to give a taster for the vote. The Sunday show would become the main event, and I'd have all contestants sing a song of their own choosing in a bottom 2. Make them all feel they're singing to survive and it will bring out the best in them, raising the quality of the show. The real bottom 2 gets announced at the end, after many times the drama has been had.
