Encouraging song writing, singing, and instrument playing
Might bring credibility back to the show.
Bored with nonsense karaoke covers
Might actually get some talent on the show

Me too! I loved Fame Academy. I remember having a major crush on Ainslie Henderson. It'd be great to have a show that had the best of both.

I agree I loved fame academy, X Factor needs to stop novelty acts from entering the competition.

To be fair the show has never been that credible, it's always been about karaoke covers.
I think going down the Fame academy route would just increase the reality TV aspect of it and focus more on personalities. I think good song writing talent is even harder to find than good singers so personally i don't want to see this happen
I think half of the songs will end up being someone strumming a guitar about splitting up with your boyfriend/girlfriend

Great idea no mentors just a group of pros to train and help them. Just a judging panel with no allegiance to any of the acts therefore no bias when judging would be ten times better.

Yes, XF should try to emulate a show that lasted for just two years. What a fantastic idea!

I liked Fame Academy - that said the only contestant I can remember is Lemar.

I do think XF needs revamping (or dropping) and the FA route would be an improvement.XF has become too karaoke imo. It would be good to see more genuine artists and musicians who can write and perform some of their own stuff.

Exacrly. For all this wonderful worthiness, Fame Academy lasted two years, was lambasted, and don't forget ITV is a business that needs to sell adverts.

It just makes me laugh that people think XF needs to be anything other than the XF. This has definitely been a weak year, and some changes do need to be made to the judging panel (and I genuinely believe it could do with taking a couple of years off to let the talent pool replenish itself), but as soon as it starts encouraging 'authenticity' and 'real music', people would switch off, because what people want of a saturday night is a big, massive entertainment show. If people want 'proper' music, they'll seek it out.

By all means, create a new TV show to help out up and coming song writers and 'real' musicians, but leave that sort of angle out of the XF. That's never been what XF is about, and people who think it needs to morph into something it isn't really need to think about precisely WHY the show has lasted for as long as it has.

They tried to make it more credible this year. Look how that turned out.
