Adice on a netbook deal
After much research online and from getting comments and feedback on various forums, I am about to take the plunge on a deal and just wanted to get some feedback if possible.
http://www.gameseek.co.uk/pd/Comfz9f.../#.ULNJ3yowwwK Firstly, I have seen the same netbook elsewhere for about £50 more, so the deal itself is the best I have found. Has anyone used Gameseek before? They look all ok and decent to me. I think if you search for the perfect machine, you can go on forever...so I have decided I like this one...so I am not really after people trying to persuade me to look for another one...unless you know of a similar spec for less! As I say, at this price range I know it wont be 100% perfect but these specs will be more than enough for what I need it for. So..if anyone is bored enough to look, I am really wanting to confirm the deal looks as good as it seems....thanks for any views... |

Hi, your favourite DS poster here! Well, I had a look online and found some good reviews of this model, the only let down is the C70 processor, which is slow and only useful for basic tasks, much like the C60. If you are happy with it though, that's fine. The price on your link is cheaper then any other I could find. Reviews link here: http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/laptops/...spire-one-725/
I won't say anything about the Acer V5 or you'll tell me off! |

I appreciate you having a look for me, Evil C!
There might be a slight change now, the same netbook but a previous model, with 1gb RAM, at £215...I will then get some extra RAM added...people have been talking me out of Windows 8 today, so I am thinking paying for some extra RAM will be better than paying for W8.... |

This is the Acer D270 you are talking about I think, with the Intel Atom N2600 and a 10.1 inch screen. I think you will find that this is a backward step from the Aspire One 725.
As we're all nice and private here in the rarified space of the PC forum I'd say to you that instead of rushing into this, you need to sit down and seriously consider exactly what it is that you want. At the moment, because you know bugger all about netbooks and laptops, you are being swayed this way and that, without being able to assess the differences between the processors, the size and resolution of the screen, the speed of the HDD, the way the RAM interacts with the system, the way the whole system performs with the OS, and what you are going to using the system for. Just slow down and find out more about the tech, take some time reading reviews, buy a couple of mags which will explain the basics to you, and do your best to try some machines out. Although £215-270 isn't a lot of money to spend on a netbook, it is still a lot of money to throw away on a quick fix recommended by strangers whose opinions you can't rely on. You won't be very happy if you buy a netbook tomorrow and it's useless for what you want. I'm not trying to give you a hard time here, BTR. I realise that you must be excited at the prospect of getting your hands on a new machine, after all, who wouldn't be. Just take your time is what I'm saying. I spent 3 or 4 months on research before I bought a laptop, because although I started off with my first PC in 1991, PCs was all I bought. I knew nothing about laptops. There's no way I was going to spend £1000 without considering carefully what I wanted. I have had my refurb Acer laptop now for 2 years (and one week) with only a few problems, which I have sorted out along the way, and I love it. It does exactly what I want and it does it well. This is the value of research and patience. |

It's only £189 here
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_...spire+one+d270 Ram upgrades on net books can be tricky, keyboard removal is often the case, it was on my Acer aspire one 522 |

My sisters partner asked me to install a 1gig module into his laptop, an older netbook. It was virtually a case of stripping the whole device down in order to get to the slot, only to find out that he'd been sold the wrong module. Was considering an update for my ex's netbook, same problem - it would require way too much effort. Compare to upgrades on my 11.6" HP311C, which was as easy as it could be. Couple of screws. Done. But for the OPs choices, I wouldn't pay over £200 for any netbook, and am unsure if the Acer is the best deal. Similar overall spec, the Asus X101CH is also maybe a little slimmer than the D270, and is under £200 (EBuyer) |

Thanks to you all....having now had time to consider options, I am going back on my thought to get a netbook...for the specs I could work with in the longer term, I can see that for similar money, I should just go and get a laptop after all.
Having seen some new models at £250-280 tops with all the specs I would need, it does make more sense....so thanks again for the netbook advice...time to sit down and find the best place online to get a nice laptop deal...any websites recommended in particular? |

I wouldn't bother spending £200 or more on a Netbook, although I like them, they seem to be on the way out. If you look at another thread of mine here, you'll see my old one has become faulty after much use.
The one I had was a Medion Akoya e1210 which was based and built on the MSi Wind and I'm going to get another one of these to replace it from <Argos> £179.99. If you don't mind the colour, they have the same <here> at £149.99 Other makes are also available at £179.00. |
