Seems like Vettel is looking in a stronger and stronger position.

I have a suspicion that Grosjean will do something into Turn 1 but I don't know what. Maybe something similar to what Liuzzi did in 2011 when he had a tankslapper.

And I think, as much as I hate to say, Lewis will retire from the race with a mechanical issue to round off a thoroughly miserable weekend so far.

That of course, could all change if the race is wet tomorrow, which it probably won't be.

Brilliant from Hulkenberg. Very naughty from Massa, he went too fast...
I don't see how it was naughty, it wasn't his fault Alonso couldn't keep up! Seeing as he may well be leaving Ferrari at the end of the season anyway, it's only fair that he gets to race too. Plus his job is to drive for Ferrari, not for Alonso...

Sorry, that was me trying to make a joke...

3 place drop for Sutil slap on the wrist and an admission that he didn't do anything wrong and it was just one of those things. Still Lewis tell charlie Hamilton complained about him so he had to get a penalty. So much for trundle's conspiracy theories.

I don't see that happening Mercedes appear to have all the mechanical issues contained to the Rosberg car.

What's funny is Ferrari cracking under the pressure,

Tweet from John Noble at autosport,

Jon Noble ‏@NobleF1, Caught up in an amusing press scrum with Luca di Montezemolo just now. He shouted at Alonso to ask if he was driving for Marussia next year

Uhuh.

Toys have certainly been thrown out of red prams today, what with Alonso accusing the entire team of being stupid and with Montezuma's response.

On the bright side, Massa is doing a decent job of coming across as captain-sensible amidst it all.
Good on him.

With RBR having figured out how to make a car fast on the straights as well as go around corners quickly I think the season's result is all but assured and, at the risk of seeming a little spiteful, it seems like the only remaining entertainment might come from the continued deterioration of the relationship between Alonso and Ferrari and the inevitable meltdown that will follow.

Its a shame that they could not agree terms with Kimi. We will have to see how Ricciardo pans out during his time at RBR. In a way if they didnt recruit someone from the junior team, then it begs the question why have a junior team?

I think Kimi was the main target, once that fell through Ricciardo seems like the obvious choice. Although it would be interesting to see what other drivers applied for the job. Horner did say there were some big names who asked. Also would like to know what terms caused the sticking point between RBR and Kimi.
From what EJ was saying on the BBC today, it seems like, perhaps, there was some friction behind the scenes there, with Horner and others in the race team wanting Kimi while the RBR management were the ones who made the decision to give Ricciardo the seat.

Still, I guess you've got to give RBR some credit for dealing with it all in a discreet manner, with no dirty laundry getting aired publicly.

I hear everybody in the Ferrari team has been told that if they see Alonso with a USB memory stick it should be confiscated with extreme prejudice.

That pretty much sums it up and barring ano accident we are in for a fairly dull race tomorrow.

Unless of course it has any clues on it from 2007 as to how on earth they won

Expected and deserved penalty for Sutil.

Did you see the Thermal Cam on one of the cars today, what interested me was how fast the tyres heated up in a corner and also how fast they cooled down on the straights.

The left front heated up more than the right front, at least on parts of the track they showed.

Interesting, I hope they show more, maybe with the temperature as well.

Blunt and honest from Hamilton. Clearly blocked by Sutil though he shouldn't blame himself that much.
He sounds like he has GF problems again.

TBH, that's what I thought too.

I suppose he was kinda right insofar as that if he'd set a time with his first run, rather than falling off at parabolica, it wouldn't have mattered that his 2nd run was blocked but he was being rather harsh with himself.

Some days things fall into place and some days they don't.
Welcome to planet Earth Lewis.

I'm sure some people will see his interview as a whine about "why does it always happen to meeeee?" but I think he was just expressing his frustration at a setback which has taken him further away from any remaining glimmer of a hope of the championship this year.

At times like this, I tend to think Lewis really could have learned a lot from being Button's team-mate.
Button seems to have a gift for simply shrugging off (in public, at least) problems and setbacks and Hamilton could really learn from that.

Unless of course it has any clues on it from 2007 as to how on earth they won
Funny thing there is, if you start to consider that you might start to raise some rather uncomfortable issues.

I mean, a vindictive person might suggest that Kimi won at Ferrari with the last embers of brilliance that remained after the Schuey era and it's really all been downhill since then.

At some point people are going to start wondering how come the same people in the factory who built epic cars for Schuey can't manage to build one for Alonso and some people might start to think that, regardless of how good he is behind the wheel, maybe Alonso, himself, is the weak link in the team now.

Seems like Alonso might have strolled into Ferrari, confident that the same team who put winning cars underneath Shuey and Kimi would just do the same for him, and now that hasn't happened you've got to wonder where the problem lies.

Course, personally I tend to think that Ferrari have just spent at least 2 years pissing in the wind due to their dodgy wind tunnel so it's no surprise that they've been struggling but not everybody will see it that way, including people within Ferrari.

Reminds me...

I think that thermal camera might explain why the whole "tyre crisis" turned out the way it did.

The key thing is that although the tyres cool down quickly after a corner, due to the camber, the inner edge of a tyre always remains hot.

At Silverstone most of the problems happened when the inner wall of a tyre failed and the speculation was that people were cutting corners and the inner wall was getting ripped apart by the back side of the valelunga curbs but I suspect that wasn't the case.

I reckon what was really happening was that the join between the inner sidewall and the tread of the tyre was overheating and then, in high lateral-G situations, the tyre was being pulled apart.

Seems like the same thing might have been a problem at circuits such as Shanghai and Sepang except that, at those circuits, the long straights are mixed with slow speed corners (particularly at the ends of the long straights) which wouldn't stress the tyres in the same way that Silverstone's long straight and high speed corners would.

With tracks like Spa and Monza coming up (tracks both known for their high-speed corners), if that was the case it'd explain why Pirelli was forced to build a stronger tyre rather than just insisting teams be more conservative with tyre use or simply ask circuits to grind away all the sharp edges from the valelunga curbs.

yeah turns out he's still dumped. Despite being all mushy after hungery and writing a love song Shwersinger was saying in all the gossip mags last week that she's still dumping him.

Good news was that Roscoe the dog was ok after his pumonea. Don't think the acupuncture did much good though. Next time take him down the vets I think.
